[17] But beware of men: for they will deliver you up to the councils, and they will scourge you in their synagogues;

About 5 years ago I had one of the biggest shocks of my life, as a young entrepreneur. A couple of my colleagues had attempted to implicate me in a suspected wrong deal. They had run copies of documents they suspected were fictitious and presented them to the Board for interrogations to begin.

All that didn’t surprise me as much as those who carried it out. These were the closest to me. I went almost everywhere with them and involved them a lot. I went out of my way to even do more for them and their kids, yet the found reason to throw me under the bus. Thankfully, I wasn’t found guilty as charged, my “prosecutors” just didn’t understand that aspect of the business.

In today’s text, Jesus sent out his disciples and gave them so much power, even over unclean/evil spirits and to heal all manner of diseases. Yet he threw in one caution: “…but beware of men…”

Shakespeare wrote in Macbeth, “there’s no art to find the mind’s construction on the face.” No matter how Holy Ghost filled you are, never stop praying for the people around you, that God will bring in helpers rather than detractors and those who pull you down.
