REAL PROSPERITY – Fri, Nov 23, 2018

Psalm 1:3 KJV

And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.

Today we begin the book of Psalms, and for the next 5months, we shall be meditating on this beautiful book authored by David, other poets and some anonymous writers.

I was struck by the word “prosper” in latter end of the third verse. Just yesterday at a revival in church, the main speaker hinted on God’s desire for his children to prosper. In fact many verses in scripture point to this fact: That God desires your prosperity.

I know Christians of today have received a lot of bashing for focusing so much on prosperity rather than soul winning, evangelism and the like. But this is only so because we have limited “prosperity” to tangible possessions, of which cash is king.

I pray that God’s desire for you to prosper won’t just be in Word, but you actually live to see it in your finances, health, marriage, education and your spiritual life as well. May you prosper in Jesus’ name.

Have a blessed day. #TGIF

GOD RESTORES – Thu, Nov 22, 2018

Job 42:10 KJV

And the Lord restored the fortunes of Job… also the Lord gave Job twice as much as he had before.

A little over a year ago when I lost my first daughter, I was so devastated. Yet just a couple of months before this incident, I had been speaking to a group of young people about God’s ability to restore.

I had to reel in my own words. I had told them that when God restores, He doesn’t only replace what is lost, but increases its original value. I was faced with a clear case of “practise what you preach.” Here I was faced with a situation that required me to visit my own notes. Those were very challenging moments. Talk is indeed cheap, they say.

So though in small proportions, I’m able relate with Job in believing that my new daughter is not only a replacement but a restoration in itself. A better version of what was lost. What more can I hope for, but better years ahead, because Job lived 140yrs extra to enjoy his hustle.

I write this to encourage all of you out there who have had major dents in your journey of faith. God restores, and if He hasn’t changed then that hasn’t too. Keep faith alive, He will restore your glory.

Have a blessed day.

A BIGGER GOD – Thu, Nov 21, 2018

Job 41:1-2 KJV

Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?

[2] Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?

What at all is Behemoth? And what is Leviathan? In two clean chapters, i.e. 40 and 41, much emphasis is made on the these two creatures. Why would God make mention of these two in his response to Job and his friends?

A little reading around portrays Behemoth and Leviathan as very powerful land and sea creatures respectively, that can definitely not be controlled by man. They are well represented in Jewish folklore or Greek Mythology in various ways.

Whatever these creatures were and what they represented, Job and his friends got the message very clearly: Even if man cannot control, question or take on these creatures, what business does he have taking on God.

We are the greatest of God’s creation and His watch over us proves His love. Let’s focus more on these than on the challenges we face each day, because no matter how big they are, they aren’t bigger than our God.

Have a blessed day.

QUESTIONS FOR GOD? – Tue, Nov 20, 2018

Job 40:3-5 KJV

Then Job answered the Lord , and said,

[4] Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

[5] Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

Trash talking is a common thing in boxing. You’d usually find some boxers making unsavoury comments about their opponents to generate some good media hype before a bout. I remember the Tyson and Lennox Lewis fight in 2002 or so.

Before the fight, Tyson had promised to eat Lewis and his children. Even questions that had nothing to do with Lewis, Tyson would bring him in and do some trash talk. Eventually when the fight happened, Tyson was the one flat on the canvas.

Job had wanted a response so badly from God. He wanted to know why this and that were happening to him. He needed some hard answers. Indeed, God eventually showed up. He was there, right in front of Job, for him to rant at him. But what did Job say? “I will lay my hand on my mouth… I will not speak further”

This is the posture man assumes when he comes in touch with the holiness and divinity of God. Ezekiel did same, so did John the Apostle. Your troubles and challenges lose their essence in His presence. What seemed to matter, matters no more. His presence flaws them all.
I pray we all make it to Him eventually, so all our failures will be naught.

Have a blessed day.

HE’S NOT HELPLESS – Fri, Nov 16, 2018

Job 36:1-3 KJV

Elihu also proceeded, and said,

[2] Suffer me a little, and I will shew thee that I have yet to speak on God’s behalf.

[3] I will fetch my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

My Quantum Mechanics lecturer used to make this statement in class often, “we don’t know what is, we can only say as much as we can about what is.”

When asked to define a thing, you can only say as much as you know. This doesn’t necessarily mean what you are saying is absolute. Knowledge grows, so perhaps in the near future, you may find out more about what you thought was all about a thing.

Elihu, like many of us sometimes, think we know too much about God. We tend to be His spokespersons and say a lot of things on His behalf. Yes we are His ambassadors, but this role too has its limits. We are guided by scripture, in that we are able to tell His position on certain things… but God is God. He won’t be put in a box!

God doesn’t need help. You have a role to worship and declare His goodness to mankind, but certainly not to help Him in “tight corners.” Spare the arguments, He is already God and nothing can change that.

Have a blessed day. #TGIF

NOT MOVED BY OUR ACTIONS – Thu, Nov 15, 2018

Job 35:6-7 KJV

If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

[7] If thou be righteous, what givest thou him? or what receiveth he of thine hand?

Recently, I had a little debate with a Christian friend of mine about sin. He was of the view that our sins do not “move” God.

Even though we did not get to the bottom of the matter, I was very clear about his position, or I thought I was, till it occurred to me that he had to define what the word “move” meant, in the context of his point.
Elihu’s comments in today’s text (Job 35:6-7) suggests a similar standpoint, but goes on to reveals more…

Our sins or righteousnesses have no direct effect on God. They do not change or add up to His personality as God. He remains who He is irrespective of what you do. In fact none of us can add up to who God is. But…

He expects you to walk a certain path for your own sake and for the sake of the Body of Christ. Our action may have no effect on Him yes… but He is affected by what we do. This is why St. Paul said, if we live, we live for the Lord… (Rom 14:8).
Hard as it may seem, do your best to live for Him, the end will justify this choice of yours.

Have a blessed day.

GOOD OLD DAYS – Fri, Nov 09, 2018

Job 29:20-22 KJV

My glory was fresh in me, and my bow was renewed in my hand.

[21] Unto me men gave ear, and waited, and kept silence at my counsel.

[22] After my words they spake not again; and my speech dropped upon them.

What are your fondest memories of your hey days? What memories of your good old days flash through your head in your quiet moments?

I remember reading a news item many years ago about the popular musician and dancer, Gemann, who was incarcerated together with Jagger Pee, for shooting and killing a taxi driver.
The News item had photos of Gemann in his hey days and the crowd he used to pull. The guy was good at his job, a rising star!

Certainly, after many years in jail, there’s no way flashes of the good old days won’t hit Gemann in his quiet moments.
Job had a similar experience at this stage of his life. In his own words he confessed, “my glory was fresh in me…” Job longed for those days again.

They say “nobody knows tomorrow” so it is very crucial to create good memories for yourself now you are still young. A way to do this is to live for the Lord, a sure way to guarantee you don’t regret the past and look into the next life with a lot of hope.

Have a blessed day. #TGIF
