FREEING THE KOLIKO – Thu, Sep 24, 2015

Psalm 129:4-5 KJV
The Lord is righteous: he hath cut asunder the cords of the wicked.

[5] Let them all be confounded and turned back that hate Zion.

As I meditated on the these two verses my mind was cast back to the days of ‘koliko,’ (puppets). As a kid I used to be fascinated by their movements and how they puppeteer could control them with his cords.

The koliko could practically do anything their master wanted. A somersault, a dance, a running or sitting posture…. just anything

A similar picture is painted in the spiritual realms for those who are controlled or being controlled by wicked people and those who hate your progress.

God is shattering their influence and has already cut these cords with which you dance to their music. The only requirement here is to live righteously and they won’t be able to reach you, not now, not ever.

Have a blessed holiday (Eid)

KEEP WALKING – Wed, September 23, 2015

Psalm 128:3-4 KJV
Thy wife shall be as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table.

[4] Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the Lord .

How refreshing it is to read these words in Ps 128 again. Even more appealing when it is sung in church as a Responsorial Psalm. It ministered to me personally as I prepare to engage my fiancee tomorrow.

Fearing the Lord comes with it own challenges, but also comes with its blessings and I dare to say that the benefits outweigh the other.

Each of us on could boast of the Lord’s doing in our lives all day long. The moment you decide to, you just could!!! Because at the moment when you decide to fear the Lord and walk in His ways, you become blessed instantly and you continue in that blessing till forever.

Blessed are they who fear the Lord and walk 🚶 in His ways. The condition for this kind of blessing is very simple. Like Johnny Walker, I urge you to keep walking.

Have a blessed day.

BREAD OF SORROWS – Tue, Sep 22, 2015

Psalm 127:2 KJV
It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

Indeed unless the Lord watches over us, our wake-keeping is all in vain, because we are unable to really save or help ourselves.

In this verse (i.e. v2) Solomon brings out a very vital fact of our walk with God; Man is absolutely inadequate, and is in constant need of the Master’s assistance.

The hustle and bustle of City life makes most of us Christians rise up early and sleep late all in the name of work. So that if the Christian gets drawn into this routine, he slowly forgets His maker, spends less quality time with Him,  and eventually eats of “the bread of sorrows,” as King Solomon would put it.

Too much of everything is bad, but NOT the over reliance on God.
Yes, there’s no time! But we can always make the time for Him if we really want to.
Put in an effort to touch base with Him each day,  so you’d stay away from the bread of sorrows.

Have a blessed day.

PEACE PRAYER – Fri, Sep 18, 2015

Psalm 122:4, 7 KJV
Whither the tribes go up, the tribes of the Lord , unto the testimony of Israel, to give thanks unto the name of the Lord .

[7] Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.

A few verses in Psalm 122 coerced me to do a little research into these songs of ascents, as most bibles have captioned them.

Three times a year, the male sons of Israel presented themselves to the Lord in the Feast of Unleaven Bread, Feast of Weeks and Feast of Tabernacles. We read this earlier on in the year when we read Deuteronomy.

Each male son never went there empty handed but with a gift for thanksgiving to the Lord.
King David adds that it is important to pray for the Peace of Jerusalem during this time.

As you gladden His heart with your gifts of Thanksgiving, do remember to pray for the peace of your own home each day, for you welcome prosperity into your home by that same act.

Have a blessed Friday.

Psalm 121:6-7 KJV
The sun shall not smite thee by day, nor the moon by night.

[7] The Lord shall preserve thee from all evil: he shall preserve thy soul.

In my opinion, Psalm 121 is one of the very popular psalms in our time. I heard it sang the first time at Adomfie, Kumasi, sometime in 2003, and it had such an effect on me.

As I meditated on verse 7 today, I thought about some preservation methods for fish, like drying, frying, freezing and smoking. None of these extreme conditions are pleasant to the fish, but alas, the same conditions make the fish good for a longer period of time.

Same way the Master may adopt extreme conditions that may not be tolerable for us, but have the ultimate objective of preserving us… preserving our souls.

Let us not be too quick to dismiss our daily experiences and call the day a bad one. Who knows, they may all be part of His preservation tactics.

Have a blessed day.

FOR WAR OR FOR PEACE – Wed, Sep 16, 2015

Psalm 120:7 KJV
I am for peace: but when I speak, they are for war.

I was in traffic yesterday when one man driving directly in front of me just wouldn’t move even though there the lights had turned green

So I lost patience and started jamming my car horn at him. Then he shouted “what do you want me to do?” I responded angrily, “just move!”

When I eventually got to drive next to him we talked harshly to each other, though we didn’t use insults. After about 10mins while I was still in the same traffic jam, I asked myself if I had behaved well as a Christian.

Like the Psalmist, I may be for peace, but when I speak they are for war. We need to guard our mouths and tongues so our utterances truly reflect what we stand for.

Have a blessed day.

WORD STICKLERS – Tue, Sep 15, 2015

Psalm 119:9 KJV
Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.

The Psalmist brings into focus again today, a thing we’ve heard and talked about on many occasions. He throws a question abroad and answers it in the same breath.

In my opinion, knowing His Word and taking heed to do according to what we read is that single solution to the myriad of challenges we face, especially as young people.

I don’t have anything against men of God, but I’m convinced that if only we’ll spend time to read the Bible and decide to live it out, we’d have second thoughts about consulting them regularly.

In our days, too many people have itchy ears and desire to hear a Word from “the prophet” even concerning their sinful lives. Cleanse that life of yours by heeding to His Word, there’s nothing more to it!!!
I pray for the grace to glue us young people to His Word.

Have a blessed day.
