Job 21:34 ESV
How then will you comfort me with empty nothings? There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood.”

I attended a funeral at Osu one day and sat next to a couple who seemed to know the deceased well enough. Very late in the programme I overheard the couple talking about how evil the deceased was while he lived.

They went on to dispute most of the good things said about the deceased in the tribute. Yet when his eldest son joined them at their seat, they didn’t only console him but encouraged him to continue in the good steps of his dad!!!

I’ve experienced similar reactions at weddings too. The same people who critiqued the couple’s commitment to each other, were the same to declare how strong their love had stood the test of time, when they were given the microphone.

You cannot trust what ALL the people say to you in your joyful or painful moments, because like Shakespeare said, “there is no art to find the mind’s construction on the face.”
Be careful of which counsel you take in, when those moments visit you.
Have a blessed day.

WHO IS WICKED? – Wed, Apr 25, 2015

Job 20:4-5 KJV
Knowest thou not this of old, since man was placed upon earth,

[5] That the triumphing of the wicked is short, and the joy of the hypocrite but for a moment?

In my opinion, the central theme of the book of Job, must have something to do with ‘the end of a wicked man.’ Far too many verses have been ascribed to this, probably because Job’s friends were too suspicious of him.

So who exactly is a wicked man by God’s standards?
I did a quick search and came by a lot of verses:
Gen 6:5, Gen 13:13, Exo 23:1,7… the list is endless.
In all these God refers to all sinners as wicked people!!!

So he who disrespected his parent, he who told a lie, he who fornicated and he who killed his neighbour are all WICKED in the eyes of the Lord. And according to Zophar, Job’s friend, that joy we gained from perpetrating these acts are only short-lived.

This makes me very uncomfortable because I’d have loved to fall out of that bracket, especially after reading the whole chapter of Job 20. But thank God for the blood of Christ, which justifies us and makes us righteous. Please take advantage of His Blood while you still have time.

Have a blessed day.

ELASTICITY CHECK – Tue, Apr 28, 2015

Job 19:25-26 KJV
For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth.

[26] And though after my skin worms destroy this body , yet in my flesh shall I see God:

Where did Job derive strength from to make such a pronouncement?

After all he was going through; i.e. total loss of family, health failure, jabs from close pals, etc, he still mustered courage to speak such words. He still believed in the height of all the agony that God will come to his aid.

My troubles may not be anywhere near that of Job. Honestly, I pray I never get pushed to that extent. But should it happen, would I be able to still stand by the Lord?

What is limit of my elasticity? How long can I really hold on out there? How much anguish can I contain without getting broken in my resolve to abide in Him?
These are questions I need to be able to answer, and I believe you too need same.

Have a blessed day.

REWARD SYSTEM – Fri, Apr 24, 2015

Job 15:20 KJV
The wicked man travaileth with pain all his days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.

All the responses that have come from Job’s friends suggest that, at least, evil never goes unrewarded. This is something I believe the whole world is aware of. Everyone knows.

When I watch african movies or even hear true life stories of people who mete out wickedness to their fellows, I wonder whether the perpetrators ever knew that simple fact of life. Even children know when they do something wrong, their body language betrays them right away.

Even if we get away with such deeds in the present, we shan’t in the near future. No wonder Eliphaz states in verse 32-33 “…and his branch shall not be green…and shall cast off his blossom like the olive.”

God encoded a reward system into it when He formed the foundations of this earth. It is a natural law you cannot change. Neither should you live as though it wasn’t there. Everything and every deed’s got its reward. Live wisely!

Have a blessed Friday.

HOPE OF A TREE – Thu, Apr 23, 2015

Job 14:7-9 KJV
For there is hope of a tree, if it be cut down, that it will sprout again, and that the tender branch thereof will not cease.

[8] Though the root thereof wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground;

[9] Yet through the scent of water it will bud, and bring forth boughs like a plant.

Job 14:7 is one of my favourite scriptures. I kept it for a whatsapp status for a long while. I could not help but read it again and again this morning. Job expressed deep faith in God by these words.

Faith, Hope and Love are three key building blocks for every believer. Hope is that one thing that keeps you going even when your faith fails. In his condition, Job is able to liken his hope to that of a tree that is cut down…almost dead. Just the scent of water is all it needs.

Your situation becomes helpless only when you lose Hope. Just like Love, Hope does not fail. It spurs us on in our darkest moments and promises life in dead situations.

Indeed “though the root may wax old in the earth, and the stock thereof die in the ground…at the scent of water, it will bud and bring forth boughs…”
I speak Hope into your situation in Jesus name.

Have a blessed day.

Job 12:18-19 KJV
He looseth the bond of kings, and girdeth their loins with a girdle.

[19] He leadeth princes away spoiled, and overthroweth the mighty.

Zophar, one of Job’s friends, came hard at him. He accused Job of wrong doing, hence his condition. Job was immediately dismissive of Zophar’s accusations and in the process revealed a lot more attributes of God a lot of people may not be privy to.

Job brought to light an interesting fact; even kings and princes may receive the stick for some reasons unknown to man. God’s hand may not necessarily have gone out against them, though He sees and knows them all.

We must not be too quick to condemn people in our own myopic judgements of their situations. We are finite in our thinking and that’s why He doesn’t expect us to discern it all.

Things happen, many of which we have no clue about, just because in our physical bodies our senses are not keen enough. Until we are transformed to those glorious bodies where all knowledge will be uncovered, we need to hold ourselves from jumping too quickly into hasty conclusions and keep praying for the best.

Have a blessed day.

Job 8:7 KJV
Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end should greatly increase.

One of Job’s friends, Bildad takes the platform and makes a beautiful submission. Of course not all he said about Job and God was true, but he makes a remarkable statement in verse 7. (See above)

Increase… is a natural phenomenon, spoken into the world by God himself when He formed it. It is a natural law and by default all things comply. This is why naturally living things grow, seeds multiply, etc, etc, etc.

In like manner God expects your faith to develop, your walk with Him to be more intimate, your fruits to be more visible. Some of us have been Christians for so long and yet have rather decreased, not increased.

‘Increase’ takes no cognisance of how you began, so that can’t be an excuse. You need to fulfill the natural law of Increase instituted by God himself in all aspects of your life by making up our minds and engendering positive attitudes that will make ‘Increase a reality.’

Have a blessed Friday.
