Job 21:34 ESV
How then will you comfort me with empty nothings? There is nothing left of your answers but falsehood.”
I attended a funeral at Osu one day and sat next to a couple who seemed to know the deceased well enough. Very late in the programme I overheard the couple talking about how evil the deceased was while he lived.
They went on to dispute most of the good things said about the deceased in the tribute. Yet when his eldest son joined them at their seat, they didn’t only console him but encouraged him to continue in the good steps of his dad!!!
I’ve experienced similar reactions at weddings too. The same people who critiqued the couple’s commitment to each other, were the same to declare how strong their love had stood the test of time, when they were given the microphone.
You cannot trust what ALL the people say to you in your joyful or painful moments, because like Shakespeare said, “there is no art to find the mind’s construction on the face.”
Be careful of which counsel you take in, when those moments visit you.
Have a blessed day.
