AFFLICTIONS – Fri, Mar 29, 2019

Psalm 129:1-2 KJV

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:

[2] Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

I had a friend whose sister was dying slowly. Each week, he and I would pay her a visit in her home, where she lived with her young son. In one of such visits, I chanced upon an old picture of this woman in her youthful days. Mehnn she was pretty!

Just then my friend realized what my eyes were locked unto and he said almost immediately, “that’s what she looked like. Will this ever end?” She had lived with the precarious condition for a long time and knew death was only a matter of time. 2 years later at her funeral, the Rev. Minister confessed that the lady’s faith was ‘unreal’ and challenged the youth present to aspire to reach such heights in faith.

Some afflictions may be long-term in nature, so when we live to suggest that no quantum of afflictions can derail our faith, then indeed we have come a long way in this our journey.

May God empower and strengthen you enough to stand when standing is almost impossible. And may you be convinced that our light afflictions would merit us a greater reward in His rest.

Have a blessed day. #TGIF

Psalm 128:1-2 KJV

Blessed is every one that feareth the Lord ; that walketh in his ways.

[2] For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy shalt thou be , and it shall be well with thee.

One of the happiest feelings one could ever have is the joy of enjoying what one has genuinely acquired; the proceeds from a very good deal with no question marks.

About 15yrs ago, we saw a wave of seminars after seminars that sought to help/groom people to create wealth for themselves. In the mix were gurus like Emmanuel Dei Tumi, the Data Bank Team and others who later became finance think tanks.

But we have come to know that it is one thing creating wealth and another thing enjoying them. Life may deal a heavy blow to anymore irrespective of bank accounts statuses. This is one of the reasons why this Psalm, i.e. Ps 128, is probably one of the most sung; every verse being a deep promise/ blessing for the children of God.

I pray you eat the labour of your hands; I pray your spouse becomes a fruitful vine by your side; I pray you see the good of the land the LORD has planted you so you shall see your children’s children and peace upon your house. 🙏🏿

Have a blessed day.

DIVINE PARTNERSHIP – Wed, Mar 27, 2019

Psalm 127:1-2 KJV

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

[2] It is vain for you to rise up early, to sit up late, to eat the bread of sorrows: for so he giveth his beloved sleep.

About a decade ago when some African airline companies were on a downward trend Kenya Airways did something very bold and daring.

Ghana Airways, Uganda, DR. Congo and Zambia’s airlines had all shut down due to operational or financial challenges. Kenya Airways decided not to be part of that statistic. They teamed up with KLM, a partnership that saw them rise through the ashes and remained relevant, at least till the past couple of years.

Teaming up with more powerful entities/people/groups puts you in a better position to win. I believe this is what King Solomon meant to say in Psalm 127:1-2. A partnership with God with very necessary for the progress of your all your endeavours.

Such a partnership could only bring good tidings, as the key partner here is indeed the One who knows the end from the beginning. Make Him part of all you do, so all your efforts don’t go down the drain.

Have a blessed day.

Psalm 126:5-6 KJV

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

[6] He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him.

2017 through to the end of 2018 were hard times for businesses in Ghana in general. The financial sector was not only the worst hit, but the Services too.

Some service providers saw their businesses plummeting to a grinding halt and a couple more folded up. Requests for Quotes (RFQs) and Expression of Interest (EoI) all of a sudden didn’t seem to exist anymore. The usual questions you hear in these circles became “what is happening?”

But this year we see light at the end of the tunnel and the signs have started showing themselves. That is why a Psalm like this (Psalm 126) probably makes so much sense to me this early morning. “When the LORD turned AGAIN the captivity of Zion, we were like them that dream.” (Ps 126:1)

Those who have sown their seeds in tears shall reap in joy, thus saith the LORD. Prepare your baskets for a harvest because what is coming is a bumper one. I pray you get your fill when the harvest is due.

Have a blessed day.

WARS AND PEACE – Fri, Mar 22, 2019

Psalm 122:7-9 KJV

Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.

[8] For my brethren and companions’ sakes, I will now say, Peace be within thee.

[9] Because of the house of the Lord our God I will seek thy good.

When I watch very old medieval movies I tend to be extra thankful for being born in the 80’s.

Even fast forward to the 1900s, terrible wars have robbed people of a very precious condition that most of us take for granted. Just a simple study of World War I and II will make you understand that no civilian took peace for granted. Same can be said of the folks in Somalia, Syria and other places today.

The Psalmist finds a positive correlation between peace and prosperity and would admonish a prayer for Peace always (Ps 122:6).

Though wars may be non-existent in places like ours, people fight wars in various manners in their homes and so lack peace of mind and the tranquillity to function as well meaning christians. I pray the peace of God will visit you and provide a peace that is multi-dimensional in your homes. Amen!

Have a blessed day.

EYES UNTO THE HILLS – Thu, Mar 21, 2019

Psalm 121:3-4 KJV

He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

[4] Behold, he that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep.

Is there ever a way to read Psalm 121 without singing it? Well, if there is then I’d like to know because no matter how many times I read this, some portions just play out in a song up there. A song I like to sing when things don’t go well.

I don’t know if you’ve ever wondered whether at some point God was asleep… like literally. A time when you go like, “Oh God, pleeeeeeease do something, I beg.”
I must confess that for some of these times help did really come, but at other times it didn’t!

The Psalmist said, “I will lift up my eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help?” Typically, God is only asleep for those of us who fail to lift up our eyes to the hills… for those who fail to keep that focus on the hills in prayer. So that even if help doesn’t come at Time A, sweeter help comes at Time B.

Not receiving help at the time of your need does NOT mean God is asleep. Though a myriad of factors could be responsible, believing He will come through for you at a better time is a more excellent approach, for those who keep their eyes lifted unto the hills. Keep believing, keep expecting, but more importantly keep your eyes unto the hills.

Have a blessed day.

LYING TONGUES – Wed, Mar 20, 2019

Psalm 120:3-4 KJV

What shall be given unto thee? or what shall be done unto thee, thou false tongue?

[4] Sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals of juniper

One of the questions I battled with, growing up as a young christian, was whether all sins were of the same magnitude in the eyes of the LORD. I know how much of a debate this could spark so wouldn’t even go there now. 😊

So much emphasis is laid on fornication and adultery that they are perceived as the worst of sins in most circles. But I believe one of the most silent killers is lies and untruthfulness. Have you wondered why we lie so spontaneously these days… why they just come with no effort? Very simple… these are part of the enemy’s strategy in our time.

I like the way the Message Bible quotes these verses (v3 – 4): “…pointed arrows and burning coals will be your reward, all you barefaced liars.” A deceitful tongue is never godly and no matter your efforts in the kingdom, your lies would only pull them all down.

May God deliver your soul and mine from lying (Ps 120:2) and from deceitful tongues. May the truth be our standard in this deceitful generation and may our lives be a wonder unto many.

Have a blessed day.
