RULERS OF OUR TIME

Matthew 20:25-26 MSG Bible
25. So Jesus got them together to settle things down. He said, “You’ve observed how godless rulers throw their weight around, how quickly a little power goes to their heads.

26. It’s not going to be that way with you. Whoever wants to be great must become a servant.

Politicians are generally not loved by the masses for one main reason; they seem to forget about the people once they are in power and tend to be a bit more selfish with the passing time.

It doesn’t even end there with selfishness. In some cases, arrogance also steps in and makes these politicians even unapproachable. How they easily forget who/what they once were, is a thing that amazes many (myself included) 🤓.

Our text today makes me wonder whether the leaders of our time have ever come across this encounter between Jesus, the sons of Zebedee and their mother. Clearly their mum knew what the benefits of being near the soon-to-be-King were, so she was only positioning her children well enough for the foreseeable bumper.

But Christ had other ideas of who a leader is…. one who actually serves his people, like a slave, as the message bible would put it. To the extent He laid down his life for those of us held captive by the power of sin and death. This is servant-leadership! We pray for the grace to imbibe this.

Have a blessed day #CarllyDevotionals
