A VISIT ON YOUR BEHALF – Thu, Aug 31, 2017

Genesis 31:24 KJV

And God came to Laban the Syrian in a dream by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

Jacob and his entire household had deliberately left Laban’s house without informing him. They left with everything they had, a bit symbolic of Israel’s departure from Egypt.

But 3 days later Laban caught wind of the information and pursued them, just like Pharoah did in the account of Israel’s exit from Egypt. But something very remarkable happened in this situation: God appeared to Laban in a dream for the first time!

The man had never heard from God directly. In fact, he had smaller gods and used charms for protection. He didn’t worship Yahweh. But because his intention towards God’s own wasn’t clean, God stopped him in a vision in the night.

For your sake, God will appear in somebody else’s sleep without your knowledge, and turn things in your favour. He Will do this through the very people who wouldn’t want to see you there. He is God, He does what pleases Him.

Have a blessed day.

FOR THEIR SAKES – Wed, Aug 30, 2017

Genesis 30:27 KJV

And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, tarry: for I have learned by experience that the Lord hath blessed me for thy sake.

Sometimes when I meet with other colleagues who ran their own businesses, you’d often hear them complain about one or two staff who give them much trouble. A very few of these bosses have even conclude that all their staff are ‘useless’ and they’ve come to accept that.

You may see renditions of this in your school, in your family or even at church. But it might interest you to know that your business, school, family or church may have seen progress not necessarily because of your hard work, but the presence of another.

I don’t look down on hard work by this statement. But the mere presence of some people, due to what (anointing) they carry on their lives, is able to affect the whole lot. Laban realized this with Jacob. The guy was shrewd, Laban knew that… But he was also blessed!

It is important for you to identify such people around you and continue to benefit from what they bring to the table. Instead of driving them away, create roles that will keep them around you longer, you will need them.

Have a blessed day. #CarllyDevotionals #1ChapterADay #OCP

LEAH EFFECT – Tue, Aug 29, 2017

Genesis 29:31-32 KJV

31. And when the Lord saw that Leah was hated, he opened her womb: but Rachel was barren.

32. And Leah conceived, and bare a son, and she called his name Reuben: for she said, Surely the Lord hath looked upon my affliction; now therefore my husband will love me.

Leah must have been a very depressed woman. Right from the time she and Rachel were introduced, we are told her younger sister was more beautiful, and probably received more favour than she did.

To add to her troubles, her father used her as tool for his schemings. She got married to man who never loved her… What anguish!!! Leah may have contemplated suicide at a point.

When nothing ever seemed to favour her, the Lord came through for her. The Lord remembered her… her cries and sobs went up to the Lord and He responded in her favour.

Don’t be too much of a hard guy to cry to Him if your present situation demands it. Your Reuben may just be on the way. May God notice and respond to your affliction today in Jesus’ name.

Have a blessed day. #CarllyDevotionals #1ChapterADay #OCP

Genesis 28:16-17 KJV

And Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely the Lord is in this place; and I knew it not.

[17] And he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! this is none other but the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

One day in church, I saw a lady ask a little girl to step out and eat her snack. The little girl’s mum would not take those words kindly, so she confronted the lady. Her response was simple. She whispered into the mum’s ears, “teach her to revere God’s presence.”

Things are very different in our time now, and in as much as everything is diluted, so does the ‘Presence of God’ seem watered down.

I wish there was a way to go back into time to see Jacob’s initial reaction when he figured out he had just spent the night at the gate of heaven.
God’s house and God’s presence is still sacred in our time.

How you revere His presence is also an indicator of your faith level. What’s your posture when you meet Him in your devotions? How serious are you in your Encounter moments with Him?

Have a blessed day.

PROTECT YOUR PROMISE – Fri, Aug 25, 2017

Genesis 25:6 KJV

But unto the sons of the concubines, which Abraham had, Abraham gave gifts, and sent them away from Isaac his son, while he yet lived, eastward, unto the east country.

Abraham was a good man but he knew he wasn’t going to live forever. He had Isaac, the promise child, but he had other sons too. Before Isaac, he had Ishmael, with Hagar, Sarah’s maid.

In his later years, before his death, Abraham had six (6) other sons with Keturah, another concubine of his. He loved all his sons, yet he was careful for the ‘Promise Child.’ He protected him by sending all the rest away!

Looking at it today, you may judge Abraham’s actions as inhumane, but the lessons therein are invaluable. Even though you received a “Word” from God concerning your future/business/career; a prophesy, you still need to guard or protect it.

In prayer, you may need to fend off all machinations of the enemy to counter that promise, rather than making it viral on social media! God may have made you that promise, but you have a duty to protect it, so do so circumspectly.

Have a blessed Friday. #CarllyDevotionals #1ChapterADay #OCP

ANGEL AHEAD OF YOU – Thu, Aug 24, 2017

Genesis 24:40 KJV

And he said unto me, The Lord , before whom I walk, will send his angel with thee, and prosper thy way; and thou shalt take a wife for my son of my kindred, and of my father’s house:

Abraham was fast approaching his deathbed. He needed a wife for his son, Isaac, who had lost his mother, so he made with his chief of staff do Isaac the onus of finding that wife, who happened to be Rebekah.

One would not fail to notice the total reliance on God by both Abraham and his chief of staff. Abraham’s faith/belief had not only rubbed off unto Isaac his son, but also on his entire household. Where would one find a servant so committed to God, in a time there was nothing like Christianity?

This chief of staff asked the Angel of God to go before him, so his journey would be prosperous. Thousands of year later, the Angel of God went before Haman in his attempt to pin Mordecai down, in the account of Esther.

Because of your belief in the Lord, may the Angel of God go before you in every situation. As you attend the interview, may He go before you. As you seek that contract, may He go before you. May he grant you Godspeed to get where you need to, in Jesus’ name.

Have a blessed day.

BURY THE DEAD – Wed, Aug 23, 2017

Genesis 23:5-6 KJV

And the children of Heth answered Abraham, saying unto him,

[6] Hear us, my lord: thou art a mighty prince among us: in the choice of our sepulchres bury thy dead; none of us shall withhold from thee his sepulchre, but that thou mayest bury thy dead.

As I meditated on these verses, I was reminded of the 7 Corporal Works of Mercy. These are actions we need to perform as Christians, to extend God’s compassion and Mercy to those in need.

We are to:
1. Feed the hungry.
2. Give drink to the thirsty.
3. Clothe the naked.
4. Shelter the stranger/homeless.
5. Visit the sick.
6. Ransom/visit prisoners or captives
7. Bury the dead

I’m not sure the children of Heth, also called the Hittites, knew these by then, yet they were willing to help Abraham in the hard times, when he had just lost Sarah, his wife.

Jesus admonishes us to mourn with those who mourn. It’s sad to see people rather take advantage of the situation, inflicting all manner of financial burdens on those who mourn. Stop it, show mercy!

Have a blessed day.
