Proverbs 15:8-9 KJV
The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the Lord : but the prayer of the upright is his delight.

[9] The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the Lord : but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.

I know a prominent man in a certain church in my neighbourhood who gave much money during fundraising activities. Nobody was able to tell me where he worked or what work he did, when I asked. One day a pastor asked me to go pick up a donation from his house.

I found out he was an online fraudster, while he thought I was too young to perceive that.
I have heard many times of stories of robbers who pray to God for success before embarking on any robbery operation.

All of these acts and gestures of charity of the wicked never move the heart of God. In fact, like Solomon put it, they are an abomination unto Him. God is not man and so cannot be bought.

In one of Idikoko’s (a local comedian) movies he said “you cannot go to heaven with a stolen Bible.” We may win the affection of many, but we do not fool the Papa Himself.
He wants you to give, but give what is genuinely yours.

Have a blessed Friday.

THE OX OR THE CRIB – Thu, Oct 29, 2015

Proverbs 14:4 KJV
Where no oxen are, the crib is clean: but much increase is by the strength of the ox.

I know one koko seller in Osu who worked with a little girl she had adopted. She treated the little girl very badly, never said anything good about her and so the little girl was always doing one punishment or the other.

I would always ask my friend who lived in their house, why the koko seller still kept the girl. “Just return her to her folks,” I’d often remark.
Some years later the koko seller gave birth to a boy, but he was autistic!

King Solomon made a profound statement worth meditation in the above text, Pro. 14:4. You cannot have a clean crib and yet want ox to live in there. Christians are not immune to this natural law. You cannot eat your cake and have it.

ALL our actions have consequences, we may get away with some most of the time but someday our deeds and words will catch up with us. At least heaven will ensure that.
Either you want a clean crib, or a bountiful harvest, think about it.

Have a blessed day.

RICHES AND RICHES – Wed, Oct 28, 2015

Proverbs 13:7 KJV
There is that maketh himself rich, yet hath nothing: there is that maketh himself poor, yet hath great riches.

Is there possibly a way to make oneself rich and yet have nothing?
Solomon must definitely be making a point worth considering.

City life is characterized by a craze to make wealth, after all, that’s the way to get by. We’ve got to pay bills, we owe our families some responsibilities, we’ve got to pay dues in the many social and religious groups, etc, etc. The list is endless! We’ve got to sow seeds, I almost forgot.

So the craze for money is very justified. We all need it.
However, this path may have the tendency to rob you of ‘money’ in the after-life. This is what we should be even more concerned about, because that life is eternal, more than a billion years.

So think about it, would you trade a billion years plus for 120yrs on earth???
Don’t be rich and yet have nothing. Go on, save up ‘cash’ where you’d spend a longer time of your life, that is VISION.

Have a blessed day.

LAY LOW – Tue, Oct 27, 2015

Proverbs 12:9 KJV
He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.

On many occasions in the past, in the midst of a certain class of people, I’ve felt like speaking and behaving like they were. I wouldn’t be “looked down on,” I’d think to myself.

So I rubbed shoulders with them in whatever subject area the discussions veered into. This usually meant that I had to lie once or twice to garnish the points I submit. The words of the philosopher today rebuke such actions of mine to a great extent.

One version of Pro 12:9 says “better to be lowly and have a servant, than robbed a great man and lack bread.” There’s no point creating an impression of what you are not. You may only end up missing some opportunities that would have come your way.

Above all “God resists the proud, but gives more grace to the humble.” – James 4:6.
Do not delight much in honouring yourself. Jesus never claimed equality with God even though He wouldn’t have been wrong if He did anyway.
We pray for the grace to lay low.

Have a blessed day.

WISDOM CALL – Fri, Oct 23, 2015

Proverbs 8:32, 35 KJV
Now therefore hearken unto me, O ye children: for blessed are they that keep my ways.

[35] For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the Lord .

The Philosopher personifies wisdom and gives her so many attributes that it would be hard to miss her. One such attribute that struck me this morning is stated in verse 35.

Too many people are familiar with the quote, “he who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favour from the Lord,” but I wonder how many have substituted the word ‘wife’ for ‘wisdom’ and have realised the quote would still be scriptural.

Wisdom is a principal thing and those who hate it are only professing their love for death. Neither can you claim wisdom for yourself if you do not demonstrate it in your deeds.

If anybody else, apart from Christ, has been with God since creation and has seen a billion generations, it MUST be wisdom.
Wisdom does not only tell of our level of maturity, but a clear sign of how much time we spend with God. Seek wisdom, it is the principal thing.

Enjoy the Friday.

DANGER LOOM – Thu, Oct 22, 2015

Proverbs 7:22-23 KJV
He goeth after her straightway, as an ox goeth to the slaughter, or as a fool to the correction of the stocks;

[23] Till a dart strike through his liver; as a bird hasteth to the snare, and knoweth not that it is for his life.

Sometimes when I think about the Samson and Delilah story I wonder how that could ever happen to a normal Ghanaian. I keep wondering what the young man was actually thinking, falling to the same trick thrice.

Delilah succeeded. Her story bears some resemblance to the woman Solomon paints in this chapter. This woman gives very concrete, irresistible reasons that could lure any man who hasn’t resolved to zip up.

“My husband has travelled and will come at an appointed time.”
Soon as you begin to consider the idea of proposal and play out the various possible scenarios in your mind, you may be on your way to trouble.

Sampson, Solomon and all others who have fallen because of a woman’s charm actually did so so you and I can learn.
Many strong men have been slain (v26) but I pray you and I may pass her test.

Have a blessed day.

SOWERS OF DISCORD – Wed, Oct 21, 2015

Proverbs 6:16, 19 KJV
These six things doth the Lord hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

[19] A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren.

The Philosopher lists 7 things that the Lord hates. The last in the list is “he who sows discord among brethren.”

God is very interested in anything that brings unity among brethren. One of my favourite quotes is found in. 1 Peter 2:17… LOVE THE BROTHERHOOD…

Anyone who’s preoccupied with picking up pieces of information and distorting them to create confusion among groups of people is devilish, and the devil is his father! I’m not mincing words.

Too many scriptures ascertain this fact. The Lord abhors this attitude and it is in your interest to quit this if it is your major preoccupation.
Sow love and unity, not discord, Love the brotherhood and honour God by this.

Have a blessed day.
