DEDICATION – Tue, Mar 31, 2015

Nehemiah 12:27 KJV
And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps.

The walls of Jerusalem had been rebuilt finally as we established previously, but one important thing had yet not been done… DEDICATION.

As a young boy I never understood why people brought their cars and other new properties they had acquired to church for the priest to bless them. I had followed our priest as a mass server to several new houses, for him to bless them.

I thought these were done to primarily ward off evil spirits from such houses.
In today’s readings we realize that even the Walls of Jerusalem, once rebuilt, were dedicated to God, courtesy Nehemiah, Ezra et al.

Among many benefits, Dedication puts God’s signature on the dedicated and renders it holy. We need to develop and cultivate an attitude of dedicating ALL WE DEEM IMPORTANT and have toiled for to the Lord like Nehemiah did.

Have a blessed day.

NEW JERUSALEM – Mon, Mar 30,2015

Nehemiah 11:1-2 KJV
And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities.

[2] And the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.

Nehemiah had finally succeeded in rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem , and with help from some top men like Ezra he managed to convince a great number of the exiles to return to their homeland.

I wish I could share in the feelings of the people as they returned. Of course, most of them were born in exile and so would not appreciate fully the nostalgic moments the older folks experienced. Yet, being in a place they could call home was refreshing indeed.

The New Jerusalem is our home and like the Israelites we MUST all endeavour to return there someday. Where all our toils here in exile will be duly rewarded by our Father. The Nehemiahs and Ezras have played their part, it is our turn now.

The ultimate goal is to RETURN TO THE NEW JERUSALEM, as Max Lucado sang in his album ‘Golden City.’ Let’s always have this in mind and stay away from the lures of this exile.

Have a blessed day.

HIRED PROPHESY – Wed, Mar 25, 2015

Neh 6:11 -12false-prophets_472_314_80

And I said, Should such a man as I flee? and who is there, that, being as I am, would go into the temple to save his life? I will not go in.
12. And, lo, I perceived that God had not sent him; but that he pronounced this prophecy against me: for Tobiah and Sanballat had hired him.

Nehemiah was very resolute in his decision to ignore Sanballat and Tobiah, irrespective of what approach they adopted. Even when they hired prophets to prophesy against Nehemiah, he just wouldn’t budge. The Spirit of Discernment was definitely mighty on him and he operated comfortably in that space.

I listened to a man of God tell his story about his upbringing one day. He recounted how other men of God had lied against him to his parents, even as a child. As if they knew and could see what God had in store for him as a mature adult. His ministry is now blooming!

Opposition may come in various forms, in so far as the devil can see the good in you. ‘Men of God’ may even prophesy against you, but probably they may only be hired. You cannot give up on a cause just because the prophet spoke. Like Nehemiah, you need to discern hard.

Discerning God’s voice in an atmosphere of ‘hired prophesy’ is not an easy thing, but it is possible. My prayer is for God to give you ears that are very sensitive to His bidding, so we can isolate what is important from the chaff.

Have a blessed day.

AT THE RIVER OF AHAVA – Tue, Mar 17, 2015

ahavaEzra 8:21 NKJV

Then I proclaimed a fast there at the river of Ahava, that we might humble ourselves before our God, to seek from Him the right way for us and our little ones and all our possessions.

Ezra had already spoken to King Artaxerxes about security. He had stated clearly that God was able to give them all the protection they needed from the hands of their enemies, so the King had not dispatched any soldiers to escort them. Yet here they were at the River of Ahava, beyond which point they were sure to be attacked, especially by all those who wanted to see them fail.

Ezra had to make a move, and the move had to be good enough to save the whole entourage that was with him.

One tool of prayer dropped into his spirit; FASTING.

The fast was declared to display their humility before God and actually seek for His protection. And indeed God responded and provided the security they desired.

Our reasons for fasting have been skewed towards one direction for far too long. We usually fast when we want a baby, favour in an interview, success in a project, etc, etc, etc. But fasting transcends all these wants or needs. God desires we fast for spiritual and physical protection, for spiritual gifts and for good virtues that make us better Christians.

Your testimonies should not only be that you fasted for a number of days and got that long awaited visa, but also that God endowed you with a spiritual gift you’ve craved for for a long time or that He gave you protection when you sought His face at the River of Ahava.

Have a blessed day.

DISGUISED OPPOSITION – Fri, Mar 13, 2015

Ezra 4:2 KJVdisguisejpg
Then they came to Zerubbabel, and to the chief of the fathers, and said unto them, Let us build with you: for we seek your God, as ye do ; and we do sacrifice unto him since the days of Esar-haddon king of Assur, which brought us up hither.

Some folks who had heard that Jerusalem and its walls were being rebuilt, but were not happy about it, went to the leaders of Israel and offered to help.

But the leaders saw through their pretense and wouldn’t allow them to help or join.
I’ve seen so many movies where the protagonist is betrayed by his own friend.

In real life I’ve seen a lady marry the fiance of her best friend!
Opposition may come glaring at you in the face, but more often than not they come disguised, in very fine outlook, offering to help rather than pull you down.

It is your duty as a child of God to discern and read through the disguise. No matter how coded their messages may be, you need to do yourself a favour by diciphering such codes.
May God give you the wisdom to know them as they come, because they definitely will.

Have a blessed Friday.

SANKOFA – Thu, Mar 12, 2015

Ezra 3:12 KJVsankofa
But many of the priests and Levites and chief of the fathers, who were ancient men, that had seen the first house, when the foundation of this house was laid before their eyes, wept with a loud voice; and many shouted aloud for joy:

After about 7months after their return from exile, the Israelites started rebuilding. Alas when the foundations were laid, the very old folks (probably 70+) who saw the old temple and are now seeing the new, could not hide their feelings.

They wept very loudly to the extent that people couldn’t differentiate their sobs from the shouts of joy from the rest of the camp.

I remember a song that was sung at a Deeper Life Church I attended sometime back; “Gimme that old time religion.”
The song says that “once it was good for Abraham and Isaac, then it is good for me,” etc. We need to go back into time once a while to pick up some habits every now and then.

In a generation when almost everything (from religion to fashion) is adulterated, it is refreshing to have a bite of the ‘old times.’ eg: Daniel prayed three times in a day, can you try that or do better?

Have a blessed day.

YOUR ANCESTRY – Wed, Mar 11, 2015

Ezra 2:59ancestry-circle-edited
The following were those who came up from Tel-melah, Tel-harsha, Cherub, Addan, and Immer, though they could not prove their fathers’ houses or their descent, whether they belonged to Israel:

42 thousand plus exiles had returned to Israel and each tribe was determined to organize themselves in a proper manner. But we hear of 5 groups of people whose ancestry could not be traced.

In fact they were not even allowed to function as priests till lots were cast to determine their ancestry.
We all know the importance of our ancestry and many of us Ghnaians know how it feels to be able to identify where you belong. Unfortunately, not many of us can boast of our spiritual ancestry.

I dare to say that your spiritual ancestry is even more important than your biological or physical one. If you knew what you were spiritually, probably you wouldn’t have held on to that habit.

Belong to the household of faith. Trace your spiritual identity to Christ. Know your worth and how much power you have at your disposal that you haven’t yet tapped. Be proud…you are a believer!

Have a blessed day.
