2 Corinthians 6:14-15 KJV
Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel?
A few weeks ago, I put up a post about why it was important for the believer to perhaps avoid eating or doing certain things in order not to weaken the conscience of new believers, even though we have the liberties.
What did the Apostle Paul mean by not being “unequally yoked” then? Did he want us to have nothing at all to do with those who were not yet in the light?
Wasn’t he the same who professed to be all things to all men, so at least some could be saved?
Indeed, Paul’s words in today’s text must not be misinterpreted to mean he didn’t want the believer to have any association with unbelievers, certainly not!
The key word in that phrase is “yoke,” which meaning is as applied in the farm. It means to couple together to achieve the same level, pace, synergy, etc… which is where it gets dangerous.
The believer is supposed to influence the unbeliever and get them into the Light and not the other way round. If your association isn’t achieving the desired results then certainly you are getting unequally yoked and need to sever ties before it gets too late.
Have a blessed day.
