Samuel 4:18 KJV
And it came to pass, when he made mention of the ark of God, that he fell from off the seat backward by the side of the gate, and his neck brake, and he died: for he was an old man, and heavy. And he had judged Israel forty years.
A young man called Bobo once told me that “All it takes for evil to thrive is for good people like you and I to sit and do nothing.”
The word of God had come to Eli severl times via different people about his son’s misconduct.
Yet Eli took no action. Eventually God judged him and entire family. All perished in the same day, even the pregnant wife of Phinehas.
What was worse, the ark of the covenant was captured and Shiloh lost its significance.
What a shame!
All the series of mishaps, which were a result of one man’s inactions, could have been averted if only he did something.
You are equally part of a problem if you fail to speak up and take action against it. God has empowered you to do this so you won’t sick somewhere and point accusing fingers.
When sin abounded on the earth Christ came down to intervene.
What are you doing in your own corner to save a deplorable situation?
Have a blessed day.
Ruth 4:1 KJV Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
I admire the zeal of this man called Boaz in all he did. He even sat outside and waited patiently for the rightful heir to discuss whether or not he could take the woman. When he was in love he could not hold himself, he’d do anything to be with the woman he had come to love so much. Naomi knew this very well. See her closing remarks in 3:18… Naomi said “he will not rest, until he has finished the thing this day.” And this was true.
I can imagine how impatient Boaz felt when he had to wait till morning to begin the ‘take-over’ process. Love between a man and a woman is a good thing, and when this love is grown out of desires that are not inordinate and selfish, one ‘cannot sleep’ until they have properly, officially and legally committed to themselves.
I don’t hold a Ph.D in Love but I have come to know what it truly means to love someone and I have come to share in this feeling Boaz and Ruth had for each other. I know some of you too have. My prayer is for those who haven’t, may God grant you that earnest desire so you may know no “rest until you have finished the thing this day.” Ain’t no such thing as mutual love!! Have a blessed day.
Judges 18:1 KJV
In those days there was no king in Israel: and in those days the tribe of the Danites sought them an inheritance to dwell in; for unto that day all their inheritance had not fallen unto them among the tribes of Israel.
In one reggae song I heard, either Bob Marley or Lucky Dube said that “In the abundance of water the fool is thirsty!”
I’m wondering how after so long a time that Israel moved to the promised land, there were still tribes that hadn’t possessed all their possessions as at this time.
Remember Moses is gone, Joshua is gone and a number of other Judges have come and gone. This must have been a really long wait.
But don’t misconstrue this for patience.
Cowardice and lack of zeal, personal drive and determination are by no means close to patience. They are not even related!
One must hit the roads if one desires to get to a certain destination.
Though God might have promised you the world, it won’t just come to you my dear. Of course there are exceptional cases but… those are EXCEPTIONS!!!
Why should you delay when you can be enjoying that blessing or inheritance now?
Work it out…work out what you believe…speak it, confess it and reach out for it. This is Faith.
Have a blessed Friday.
Judges 17:11-12 KJV
And the Levite was content to dwell with the man; and the young man was unto him as one of his sons.
And Micah consecrated the Levite; and the young man became his priest, and was in the house of Micah.
Wow… Israel had reached a very deplorable state now. The bible i read captioned it, ‘A state of Anarchy,’ I couldn’t agree less. God’s eople did whatever they wanted though they knew very well that what they did were all wrong.
People had shrines in their homes, and as if that wasn’t enough, self-acclaimed Levites were now serving as priests in these shrines. Now that’s a very very low point.
When sin rules in our lives and we allow it to have its hold, it only gives birth to more sin and the stench we produce is repulsive to God enough to let Him look away.
Then we even sink deeper and deeper in our filth and He begins to feel nauseous even when He hears our name.
For those of us who have to this point of total disregard for God in our lives we really need to realize that the accuser is very pleased with this state of ours and knows we are only sitting on a time-bomb… It’s only a matter of time, then…kaboooooommmm!!!
Live wisely dear one.
Have a blessed day.
Judges 16:31 KJV
Then his brethren and all the house of his father came down, and took him, and brought him up, and buried him between Zorah and Eshtaol in the buryingplace of Manoah his father. And he judged Israel twenty years.
The story of Samson is one of the biggest tragedies in scripture in my opinion.
I asked myself a lot of questions this morning when I read this account.
Could Samson have judged Israel longer than he did? Was this the Will of God for His life? Were his folks and God disappointed in him?
These and many more question kept swarming my thoughts.
Here was someone so anointed that manifestations were at his beck and call. Think about it, who invokes the Holy Spirit right after spending the night with a harlot, who does that?
Yet foolishness is able to bring all that anointing to nothing.
Wisdom is the principal thing… – Pro 4:7.
No matter your level of anointing you still need to consider Wisdom. I dare to say that Wisdom can get you out of some situations where your anointing ‘fails.’
Have a blessed day.
Judges 15:15 KJV
And he found a new jawbone of an ass, and put forth his hand, and took it, and slew a thousand men therewith.
We see Samson performing a similar feat to what we read Shamgar did in Judges 3 a few days ago with an ox goad.
This time Samson takes it to the next level. He slew 1,000 using just a jawbone… an anointed jawbone
In both cases both men did this after the Spirit of the Lord came mightily on them.
Man is limited and that is why there is the need for what I call ‘Divine Amalgamation.’
Matt 10:26 says “with God all things are possible.” Of relevance to me this morning is the 1st two words… “with God.”
A meagre is usually better far far better than being alone. See what happened to Ghana Airways and other singly owned local businesses and compare them to the likes of Kenya Airways and the other businesses that decide to merge.
TTB & Ecobank, Procredit & Fidelity, etc… all went for the meagre to better their lot and cash-in some more.
So you do the math yourself and see how much you can cash in if you merge ‘WITH GOD.’
The possibilities are limitless!!!
Have a great day.
Judges 11:39-40 KJV
And it came to pass at the end of two months, that she returned unto her father, who did with her according to his vow which he had vowed: and she knew no man. And it was a custom in Israel,
That the daughters of Israel went yearly to lament the daughter of Jephthah the Gileadite four days in a year.
Jephthah made a vow to God that if God gave him victory in the battle against the Ammonites, on his return home he would offer whatever came out to meet him FIRST as a burnt offering to the LORD.
Now that’s a serious vow! When I read this account two things came to mind. Either this was loose talk or the guy Jephthah was too spiritual.
Couldn’t he have modified his vow maybe just a little bit? Like saying, “whichever one of his livestock that came out to meet him first…?”
Jephthah’s reaction when his daughter came out to meet him tells us how broken he was afterwards, a victor who couldn’t celebrate his victory…. A sour victory.
You are under no obligation to make a rash vow to the Lord, especially when in distress. Until u’ve come to understand the full implications of a vow, don’t just open your mouth to pronounce it. You might do better with a sacrifice instead.
Let’s be watchful with our vows, they are not mere words.
Have a blessed day.
