IS HE FRUSTRATED WITH US? – Thu, Aug 29, 2019

Jeremiah 14:11-12 KJV

Then said the Lord unto me, Pray not for this people for their good.

[12] When they fast, I will not hear their cry; and when they offer burnt offering and an oblation, I will not accept them: but I will consume them by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence.

Back in the days I used to think God got fed up with me a good number of times. I’d confess a sin and promise myself and God I wasn’t going to go back to them, only for me to return to my vomit, sometimes in the same week. 😔

I must confess such thoughts made me feel like giving up entirely on the practice of confessing my sins. But those were my days as a young Christian. The Word of God has enlightened my understanding enough, to keep me from such dangerous thoughts as not to confess.

In Jeremiah’s days God actually got frustrated with the people at a point, and wouldn’t hear their prayers anymore, for idolatrous reasons. But even in those days, He still offered love eventually.

Don’t be fooled by anyone, we live in a time of grace. This doesn’t mean we now have the license to fool about, but it certainly means no matter how guilty you feel, can still go back to the Father and tap into His immeasurable love. He does not get frustrated! He knows you are really dirty, but He still wants you to come.
Let’s approach the throne of grace with boldness and exchange what we wear for some fine linen.

Have a blessed day.

WICKED TOO PROSPER – Tue, Aug 27, 2019

Jeremiah 12:1 TLB

You are right, O God, and you set things right. I can’t argue with that. But I do have some questions: Why do bad people have it so good? Why do con artists make it big?

[2] You planted them and they put down roots. They flourished and produced fruit. They talk as if they’re old friends with you, but they couldn’t care less about you.

One key motivation for those who do evil to continue in their acts, is seeing others who do worse prosper.

Even in my few years practising as a marketing communications professional, I have seen many people who do the wrong things prosper, at the expense of those who stick to the rules. The good rather end up getting punished for doing the right.

Jeremiah, even in his time, had similar challenges, so would pose a question to God, “…why do bad people have it so good?”
But how would God respond? “Even if you can’t contend with footmen, how would you contend with horsemen?”
God was more interested in protecting Jeremiah from the closest evil to him; evil within his closest brothers, that was meant to destroy Jeremiah (v6).

Our focus as Christians needs not be on the successes of wrong/evil doers. God is working out far exceeding schemes in your favour and redeeming you from more dangerous plots that your eyes can’t perceive. Don’t compromise, stick to the good you are doing without being envious of the evil around you. A far exceeding reward awaits you.

Have a blessed day.

OBEY HIS VOICE – Wed, Aug 21, 2019

Jeremiah 7:22-23 KJV

For I spake not unto your fathers, nor commanded them in the day that I brought them out of the land of Egypt, concerning burnt offerings or sacrifices:

[23] But this thing commanded I them, saying, Obey my voice, and I will be your God, and ye shall be my people: and walk ye in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well unto you.

I’m reminded of the story of Jesus driving out worshippers, who were trading in the temple, and claiming they had turned the temple into a den of thieves.

In that story, Jesus was appalled by the fact that the temple had been reduced to just a place where sacrifices were burnt and offerings were received, nothing more!
The very basics were lost. Obedience to the Lord and love of fellow man were a far cry from the practise of their faith. Much had been lost to religiosity.

This actually happened in Jeremiah’s time, many many years before Jesus’s episode. I fear same could be happening in our time. Obedience to His Voice has been substituted with offerings and sacrifices in our own way. We are only perpetrating what was started thousands of years ago and the end of such actions is only one (v15, 16).

May the Lord of Host kindle in our hearts, a desire to obey Him. I pray for an obedient heart, a heart that may truly attract the attention of the Lord and inherit the favours that come with it.

Have a blessed day.

FENCED BY GOD – Thu, Aug 15, 2019

Jeremiah 1:18-19 KJV

For, behold, I have made thee this day a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls against the whole land, against the kings of Judah, against the princes thereof, against the priests thereof, and against the people of the land.

[19] And they shall fight against thee; but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord, to deliver thee.

Starting a new idea, business or any other initiative comes with it’s own challenges, one of which is opposition from already existing players in that field/industry.

Jeremiah was very hesitant when God set him out on a new path. We see in v18 that even priests who should have encouraged him, were going to oppose him. But God had the final say: He gave the prophet such an assurance of defence like none other; an iron pillar and a bronze wall that is impenetrable. This is our insurance!

These challenges either toughen the originator or break him up completely. I sure this is why one saying goes like, “the cemetery is full of great ideas that never materialized,” or something ike that.

Go all out and do.
God is with you to deliver you, so that no opposition against you should prevail (v19). I pray God will fortify your defenses each day, to resist any form of encroachments.

Have a blessed day.

ALL’S WELL THAT ENDS WELL – Wed, Aug 14, 2019

Isaiah 66:7,9-10 KJV

Before she travailed, she brought forth; before her pain came, she was delivered of a man child.

[9] Shall I bring to the birth, and not cause to bring forth? saith the Lord : shall I cause to bring forth, and shut the womb ? saith thy God.

[10] Rejoice ye with Jerusalem, and be glad with her, all ye that love her: rejoice for joy with her, all ye that mourn for her:

One of the clichés I remember very well from my Physical Chemistry lectures is “out of chaos comes orderliness.”

Israel went through many years of turmoil, in their own land and those of others. Messages from various minor and major prophets usually spelled doom for them, but in Isaiah’s final words, he made them understand that all were for their own good.

No form of chastening or chastisement seems cool in the beginning but we know what the intended purpose is. These are words I console myself with when the times are really hard. I know that in the end, the elect of the Lord will always prevail.

As we end the book of Isaiah and prepare for Jeremiah, my prayer for you is that God brings an end to your pains/troubles as you wait on Him. And that the joy of a new birth will visit you as He promised through Isaiah, erasing all the days and months of toil and pain.

Have a blessed day.

NEW HEAVENS, NEW EARTH – Tue, Aug 13, 2019

Isaiah 65:17 KJV

For, behold, I create new heavens and a new earth: and the former shall not be remembered, nor come into mind.

The promise of new heavens and a new earth has always been a subject of debate among various denominations of Chrisianity. Every group of believers have interpreted these words from Isaiah and that from John’s Book of Revelation, in their own way.

Some have argued that newness here doesn’t necessarily refer to the replacement of the physical earth but a refresh of the individual living in it, purging it of any form of corruption, restoring the original purpose for which is was initially created.

Whichever school of thought you belong to, we can all agree that at least, evil will not co-exist with good in the eventual picture. Wherever or whatever the new heaven and a new earth represent, will be totally void of evil and its perpetrators.

This is definitely a place I would want to be and I know you’d fancy same. Let’s look ahead to that place where pain and loss will be a thing of the past; where joy and love will be truly experienced; where life will be lived at its fullest.

Let’s seek this new place.

Have a blessed day

SINS AND SAINTS – Wed, Aug 07, 2019

Isaiah 59:12-13 KJV

For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions are with us; and as for our iniquities, we know them;

[13] In transgressing and lying against the Lord, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.

I think we live in a time where a lot of evil is underrated. Very nice names have been given to certain sins and by so doing have watered down the weight they carry as sins. For instance, one indulging in fornication could easily be described as having an affair. Nice and cute, isn’t it!!

But sins are sins, and no matter how we colour them, they still carry their potency.
Yes, they are potent enough to cause a separation between us and the most powerful being alive, Yahweh (v2). This is no small feat.

If anything has the power to cause the Almighty Himself to look away from His most beloved creatures, then that one thing must not be underrated. This is one of the reasons Yahweh is always in need of intercessors to stand in the gap (v16).

The weight of sins beset us all the time (Heb 12:1) and put us in a very vulnerable position for attacks of all manner. Sin makes us defenseless before the enemy, isolating us from the innumerable company and making us cheap shots for the enemy. Don’t be fooled by how society labels sin now. They are still potent and can bring you down.

Have a blessed day.
