RETIREMENT BECKONS – Wed, Nov 29, 2017

Numbers 4:22-23 KJV

Take also the sum of the sons of Gershon, throughout the houses of their fathers, by their families;

[23] From thirty years old and upward until fifty years old shalt thou number them; all that enter in to perform the service, to do the work in the tabernacle of the congregation.

Clearly, the years of active service among the Jewish temple workers was between the ages of 30 and 50.

Moses and Aaron counted only these groups of people because God was specific in His request. This reminded me an audio I listened to, titled “What I wish I knew before age 60” by Uncle Ebo Whyte.

Most of us reading this by now find ourselves within our years of active service. There will definitely come a time when we won’t have the strength to carry ourselves about. How are we preparing ourselves for those days?

When I see very old people looking miserable and wretched, I always myself what they were doing while they were younger. The Wisdom you derive in serving Christ shouldn’t make you get to this stage whatsoever. Christians too must make hay while the sun shines.

Have a blessed day.

DIRECT ACCESS – Tue, Nov 28, 2017

Numbers 3:11-12 KJV

And the Lord spake unto Moses, saying,

[12] And I, behold, I have taken the Levites from among the children of Israel instead of all the firstborn that openeth the matrix among the children of Israel: therefore the Levites shall be mine;

Technically, all the firstborn children of the stock of Israel belonged to the Lord, by ancient Jewish culture.

This practice was supposed to be a memorial of how the Lord spared their firstborns in Egypt on that Passover night.
But around this time of their journey in the wilderness, God needed men to work in the sanctuary. More men to handle the many tasks their daily worship required.

So as it were, God traded His ownership of the firstborns, for the Levites. All the sons of Levi would now be drafted into the Aaronic Order, instead of the firstborns, beginning what would be the Levitical Order.

The Priests and Levites together had been in direct service to God, till Jesus at Calvary, tore the veil for you and I to enjoy direct access. But how much of Him do you access each day even though you have ALL the privileges now.
To whom much is given, much is required.

Have a blessed day.

RAIN AND PEACE – Fri, Nov 24, 2017

Leviticus 26:3-4,6 KJV

If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;

[4] Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit.

[6] And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make you afraid…

A group of young people were having a discussion, trying to figure out what the causes of all the problems they faced in their country were.

After listing a few points, they concluded that their problems may never have existed if more than half of the population was educated. So they made a new list of what reforms education would bring to them. The list was endless!

Moses and co. saw a similar list when God asked them to comply with His statutes. Two items on God’s list that makes me happy today are The Rain and Peace.

The Rain will come in due season, and you yield will never disappoint. You’ll only be flourishing to the awe of your peers. And as for the Peace that will be associated, you can only experience it, like I am 😎, it’s difficult to define.

Have a blessed Friday.

JUBILEE YEAR – Thu, Nov 23, 2017

Leviticus 25:23-24 KJV

The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.

[24] And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a redemption for the land.

The first time I visited Dzodze in the Volta Region, we drove past many vast plains of lands. One question that kept recurring to me was, who they belonged to.

In Accra you may not see such vast lands anywhere, because almost every single piece of land has been sold or in the process of being sold. For obvious reasons the prices of these Accra lands are very dear and most often only the very rich are able to afford. Eventually, all lands owned by poorer people will be acquired by richer folks.

God knew this would happen with the Jews even before they got to Canaan, so established a caveat… “The land is mine, no one can possess it forever.” (v23)
Buried in this statement is a wealth redistribution plan. Even if you bought the land from someone, you had to return it during the Jubilee Year (50yrs). 😊😎

This means one could only lease out the land and not otherwise… and this God did to protect the properties of the poor and less privileged.
He has all of us in mind irrespective of your social status. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.

Have a blessed day.

PERFECT LAWS – Wed, Nov 22, 2017

Leviticus 24:19-20 KJV

And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him;

[20] Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.

I’ve been involved in conversations where people have said, they thought an eye for an eye was a perfect law. 😇.

Their argument was that laws of this nature served as a deterrent for the entire community. Well… they are right, clearly that was the true intent of that particular Law, a preventive one…

But how does that measure up against the commandment of Love Jesus introduced. Even though the first Law was clearly stated and communicated, there were occasions of them. People disregarded the Law. Secondly, if they were not caught, they got away with them.

But the Commandment of Love isn’t so. By its nature, it had an inherent deterrence and won’t even consider a situation of being caught or not. Above all, Love opens its arm to accidents and things done inadvertently, unlike the first Law. So there you are, which of these two is indeed perfect? 😊

Have a blessed day.

THE SEVENTH DAY – Tue, Nov 21, 2017

Leviticus 23:3 KJV

Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein : it is the sabbath of the Lord in all your dwellings.

I had a friend in school who never studied any of his books on Saturdays. In fact, his ritual started on Friday evenings when we returned from the canteen.

He’s the first person who comes to mind whenever I hear or read about the Sabbath. Arguments about the Sabbath have ranged from which day it should be, to what extent of work one should or not do. Another school of thought is that 6days is 6days, so one could individually decide which day is his/her 7th day, for which he/she may observe the Sabbath.

But what was the actual significance of the Sabbath? It was a period for the Jews to forget about the cares of this world/life and shift their focus on God, their Redeemer. Aside the health benefits, the Sabbath provides very good spiritual restoration.

The Sabbath is the Lord’s as Jesus put it, but He also said that it was made for man. Whichever school of thought you belong to, spend quality time each week, worrying about nothing, rather shifting your energies unto your Father in worship or prayer. You will reap the benefits.

Have a blessed day.

THE VERY BEST OF YOU – Mon, Nov 20, 2017

Leviticus 22:24 KJV

Ye shall not offer unto the Lord that which is bruised, or crushed, or broken, or cut; neither shall ye make any offering thereof in your land.

About 2 days ago when I was reading this same book, Leviticus, I came across a few rules for the priesthood. One rule caught my attention: That any priest with a blemish or was an eunuch could not offer the show bread.

Fast forward to today, Catholic Priests do not get married so one would think eunuchs would be best suited for this kind of job, but NO… The law is still upheld within the Church!!! Eunuchs are simply exempted from the priesthood.

This stands to reason that God indeed is a stickler for perfection. Though the offerings were burnt at the end of the day, He still didn’t want them bruised, crushed nor with any defect 🤔.

Imagine what could have happened if God simply overlooked this principle of His and allowed anything in, the unthinkable would indeed happen.
God wants the best so only offer your best, not your least.

Have a blessed day.
