Nehemiah 12:27 KJV
And at the dedication of the wall of Jerusalem they sought the Levites out of all their places, to bring them to Jerusalem, to keep the dedication with gladness, both with thanksgivings, and with singing, with cymbals, psalteries, and with harps.
The walls of Jerusalem had been rebuilt finally as we established previously, but one important thing had yet not been done… DEDICATION.
As a young boy I never understood why people brought their cars and other new properties they had acquired to church for the priest to bless them. I had followed our priest as a mass server to several new houses, for him to bless them.
I thought these were done to primarily ward off evil spirits from such houses.
In today’s readings we realize that even the Walls of Jerusalem, once rebuilt, were dedicated to God, courtesy Nehemiah, Ezra et al.
Among many benefits, Dedication puts God’s signature on the dedicated and renders it holy. We need to develop and cultivate an attitude of dedicating ALL WE DEEM IMPORTANT and have toiled for to the Lord like Nehemiah did.
Have a blessed day.
