Nehemiah 13:7-8 KJV
And I came to Jerusalem, and understood of the evil that Eliashib did for Tobiah, in preparing him a chamber in the courts of the house of God.
[8] And it grieved me sore: therefore I cast forth all the household stuff of Tobiah out of the chamber.
After Nehemiah’s Reform, he left Jerusalem briefly and returned to King Artaxerxes because his leave period had expired. Remember that he was the king’s cupbearer before undertaking this project.
In his absence a number of things happened in Jerusalem. Verses 1 to 6 lists a couple of them. In just a few years when Nehemiah took leave of them, the Jews were on a rapid moral decline again, and personalities like the chief priests were all fingered.
But God, who judges the innermost secrets of man, brought back Nehemiah to embark on a final Reform. All those who had flirted with the enemy were cast out. Entertaining the enemy is not such a prudent move!
Jesus commands us to pray for our enemies but that doesn’t permit you to dine with them. You may lose your own life, cut short your own ministry or perhaps destroy the legacy you sought to build for your children and their children. Be wise, know the enemy!
Have a blessed day.
