Nehemiah 11:1-2 KJV
And the rulers of the people dwelt at Jerusalem: the rest of the people also cast lots, to bring one of ten to dwell in Jerusalem the holy city, and nine parts to dwell in other cities.
[2] And the people blessed all the men, that willingly offered themselves to dwell at Jerusalem.
Nehemiah had finally succeeded in rebuilding the broken walls of Jerusalem , and with help from some top men like Ezra he managed to convince a great number of the exiles to return to their homeland.
I wish I could share in the feelings of the people as they returned. Of course, most of them were born in exile and so would not appreciate fully the nostalgic moments the older folks experienced. Yet, being in a place they could call home was refreshing indeed.
The New Jerusalem is our home and like the Israelites we MUST all endeavour to return there someday. Where all our toils here in exile will be duly rewarded by our Father. The Nehemiahs and Ezras have played their part, it is our turn now.
The ultimate goal is to RETURN TO THE NEW JERUSALEM, as Max Lucado sang in his album ‘Golden City.’ Let’s always have this in mind and stay away from the lures of this exile.
Have a blessed day.
