AFFLICTIONS – Fri, Mar 29, 2019

Psalm 129:1-2 KJV

Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth, may Israel now say:

[2] Many a time have they afflicted me from my youth: yet they have not prevailed against me.

I had a friend whose sister was dying slowly. Each week, he and I would pay her a visit in her home, where she lived with her young son. In one of such visits, I chanced upon an old picture of this woman in her youthful days. Mehnn she was pretty!

Just then my friend realized what my eyes were locked unto and he said almost immediately, “that’s what she looked like. Will this ever end?” She had lived with the precarious condition for a long time and knew death was only a matter of time. 2 years later at her funeral, the Rev. Minister confessed that the lady’s faith was ‘unreal’ and challenged the youth present to aspire to reach such heights in faith.

Some afflictions may be long-term in nature, so when we live to suggest that no quantum of afflictions can derail our faith, then indeed we have come a long way in this our journey.

May God empower and strengthen you enough to stand when standing is almost impossible. And may you be convinced that our light afflictions would merit us a greater reward in His rest.

Have a blessed day. #TGIF
