SONS OF SCEVA – Fri, Jun 05, 2020

Acts 19:13-15 KJV

Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

[14] And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

[15] And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

One of the observations we made in High School was how most of the boys whose parents were pastors or reverend ministers turned out quite the other way.

Indeed, a few lived up to expectations, but the majority chose to be at the disciplinary committee more often than the average student. There, I came to terms with the fact that everyone had to know God for himself, period.

The sons of Sceva thought they could ride on their position as sons of the chief priest and their knowledge of the Apostle Paul and “his God” to exorcise people possessed with demons. We all know how things ended!

We too are sons of Sceva when we depend on others’ knowledge of God for our own salvation. We must individually strive to know God. Whether spouse, children or kinsmen of those who know Him, we too MUST know Him for who He is. He rewards those who seek Him diligently, for they are marked unto eternity and won’t be overtaken/overcome by any evil.

Have a blessed day. #TGIF
