Lamentations 4:1-2 KJV
How is the gold become dim! how is the most fine gold changed! the stones of the sanctuary are poured out in the top of every street.
[2] The precious sons of Zion, comparable to fine gold, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers, the work of the hands of the potter!
In high school, I remember one of our colleagues so well for his notoriety. He was almost a legend of our time for the wrong reasons. His name was a constant for the disciplinary committee and I’m sure they got tired of seeing him. Everyone knew he wasn’t going to turn out well… at least it wouldn’t have surprised anyone.
Today, he walks about a fine preacher of the Gospel, doing ‘exploits’ some could never dream have dreamed of. Everyone is happy when things turn out this way.
The reverse situation is also true, we are taken aback when the crème de la crème of our time end up wayward. This was the perception of Prophet Jeremiah (of his people) as he wrote this Lamentation.
“How has the gold become dim… The precious sons of Zion, how are they esteemed as earthen pitchers?”
Only Christ and His Gospel is able to sustain our lustre, in the grand scheme of things.
Our time here on earth is limited, so may not be the most appropriate judge of how we end up eventually. But in all, at the final curtain call, will we maintain our lustre? My prayer is that you and I would not be found wanting. Be the gold that you are!
Have a blessed day.
