Psalm 50:11-12 KJV
I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine.
[12] If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof.
The first time I got to be part of a finance and fund raising committee many years ago, I was surprised by a list I chanced upon. It comprised names of people who had pledged from 5yrs back. Many thoughts started rushing through my mind.
Clearly something was not right, I thought. Were they expecting some monies that never got into their hands? Were their pledges a form of showmanship, did they only want to impress people? Were they ‘bribing’ God to do something for them in return?
Some old testament folks also behaved in a similar way. They sacrificed big time to ‘manipulate’ God to do their bidding, even when their motives were wrong. No wonder these powerful and majestic words came from the Lord (see v8 -12).
Offer your thanksgiving to God as an act of commitment and fellowship with God. Your vow to Him is important, but the motives behind must be equally clean, else you are only throwing away your pearls.
Have a blessed day.
