Job 41:1-2 KJV
Canst thou draw out leviathan with an hook? or his tongue with a cord which thou lettest down?
[2] Canst thou put an hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
What at all is Behemoth? And what is Leviathan? In two clean chapters, i.e. 40 and 41, much emphasis is made on the these two creatures. Why would God make mention of these two in his response to Job and his friends?
A little reading around portrays Behemoth and Leviathan as very powerful land and sea creatures respectively, that can definitely not be controlled by man. They are well represented in Jewish folklore or Greek Mythology in various ways.
Whatever these creatures were and what they represented, Job and his friends got the message very clearly: Even if man cannot control, question or take on these creatures, what business does he have taking on God.
We are the greatest of God’s creation and His watch over us proves His love. Let’s focus more on these than on the challenges we face each day, because no matter how big they are, they aren’t bigger than our God.
Have a blessed day.
