QUESTIONS FOR GOD? – Tue, Nov 20, 2018

Job 40:3-5 KJV

Then Job answered the Lord , and said,

[4] Behold, I am vile; what shall I answer thee? I will lay mine hand upon my mouth.

[5] Once have I spoken; but I will not answer: yea, twice; but I will proceed no further.

Trash talking is a common thing in boxing. You’d usually find some boxers making unsavoury comments about their opponents to generate some good media hype before a bout. I remember the Tyson and Lennox Lewis fight in 2002 or so.

Before the fight, Tyson had promised to eat Lewis and his children. Even questions that had nothing to do with Lewis, Tyson would bring him in and do some trash talk. Eventually when the fight happened, Tyson was the one flat on the canvas.

Job had wanted a response so badly from God. He wanted to know why this and that were happening to him. He needed some hard answers. Indeed, God eventually showed up. He was there, right in front of Job, for him to rant at him. But what did Job say? “I will lay my hand on my mouth… I will not speak further”

This is the posture man assumes when he comes in touch with the holiness and divinity of God. Ezekiel did same, so did John the Apostle. Your troubles and challenges lose their essence in His presence. What seemed to matter, matters no more. His presence flaws them all.
I pray we all make it to Him eventually, so all our failures will be naught.

Have a blessed day.
