And when the servants of Hadarezer saw that they were put to the worse before Israel, they made peace with David, and became his servants: neither would the Syrians help the children of Ammon any more.

The story of Hanun and David is a very interesting one we encountered earlier in the 2nd book of Samuel, where a very unnecessary war broke out between the two, just because David’s good intentions were misinterpreted.

At the end of the day, that hand of peace David intended to offer initially to the Ammonites, was finally accepted, but at the cost of more than 47,000 souls; a very avoidable and foolish endeavour.

When we fail to yield to the call/invitation of Christ and submit to His will, we put ourselves in a similar position to the one Hanun and the Ammonites found themselves in. You may not know it now but the story at the end could be more disastrous.

Lessons from this account must save us from the spirit of foolishness and teach us to save a situation while we still can. Make that decision now to save your soul. Make Him your friend; accept His offer; no need to fight Him; you won’t win.
