1 Chronicles 13:9-10 KJV
And when they came unto the threshingfloor of Chidon, Uzza put forth his hand to hold the ark; for the oxen stumbled.
[10] And the anger of the Lord was kindled against Uzza, and he smote him, because he put his hand to the ark: and there he died before God.
Just this morning I woke up to see a message a friend had shared with me last night; it was the sermon from his church last Sunday, he had forgotten to post on the page on Monday. Interestingly, we read the same text today.
Most people who hear the story of how Uzzah died at the threshing floor of Chidon, get angry about it, just like David, and feel sorry for the dude who thought he was helping, probably out of instinct/reflex. A little reading I did around this revealed a good number of reasons, which together brought Uzzah’s demise.
1. The ark was never to be carried in a cart. Remember the Philistines did same.
2. Only Levites could carry the ark.
So touching the Ark was more like the last straw; a sign of total disregard to the things of God, even if done unknowingly.
Contrary to popular opinion, you can’t worship God anyhow you feel. God has standards and He expects those who worship Him to know and comply. The consequences can be dire when we act in ignorance. Worship… but get it right.
Have a blessed day.
