Deuteronomy 21:18,21 KJV
If a man have a stubborn and rebellious son, which will not obey the voice of his father, or the voice of his mother, and that , when they have chastened him, will not hearken unto them:
[21] And all the men of his city shall stone him with stones, that he die: so shalt thou put evil away from among you; and all Israel shall hear, and fear.
When I was a young boy, we had a chap in the local school whom everybody knew for the wrong reasons. He was my friend!
No single week passed without the mention of his name in school. In the house as well, we heard his tales, they were no good. So you can imagine my mum’s reaction when she was told I was his friend. 😊
When I read about how to deal with rebellious children in Deut 21:18-21 I wanted to know if there was really a single such recorded incidence in Jewish history, where a parent reported their wayward child to be stoned.
We thank God for the gift of the New Covenant and the reforms it introduced. Who knows where you and I would have been, especially considering how ‘religious’ a country like our is. May we find reasons to bless God for giving us Christ.
