Now these are the judgments which thou shalt set before them.

At Mount Sinai, the ten commandments were delivered by God Himself to all the people. They all saw the blinding flashes of lightning and heard the thunderous voice of God. The next few chapters would list what theologians have come to call the Law.

Yes, the 10 commandments were given by God Himself, but at that same mountain, he voice out all the rest of the other commandments the people were supposed to live by. My concordance tells me there were over six hundred of them.

And that they were revealed in three main places; here in at Sinai (Exodus and Leviticus), during the wilderness wanderings (Numbers) and the plains of Moab (Deuteronomy); 613 separate commands ordering their social, moral, political and spiritual lives. (Ref: KJV 2000 Devotional Study Bible, pg 72 – 73)

The Law had an extensive coverage, yet its true purpose of LOVE would be fulfilled by the Son of God many years later. The Law was necessary at the time, Love should rule our hearts in our time.
