2 Thessalonians 3:7-8 KJV
For yourselves know how ye ought to follow us: for we behaved not ourselves disorderly among you;
[8] Neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought; but wrought with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be chargeable to any of you:
Reading through my Study Bible this dawn I came to learn that because Paul had told the Thessalonians about the second coming of Christ in his first letter to them, some of them stopped working and were being a burden on others.
This became a worrying trend for the apostle. Not necessarily because they were not working but because of the motives behind. Using himself (a tent maker) as an example, the apostle charged those brothers to keep working to support themselves.
Idleness is no tradition of the church. I know how difficult it is in our time to land a job, but by all means let’s do something; we just can’t be busybodies doing nothing (v11).
I thank God for putting you in some gainful employment and I pray that you continue to be a blessing to those who are yet to find something to do.
Have a blessed day.
