Colossians 2:8 KJV
Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.
There could be some dangers inherent being a stickler for strict religious practises, especially when one doesn’t know the basis of these practises, yet they are perpetrated in the name of Christ.
Such was the situation when Paul the apostle wrote to the people of Colosse. Too many false practises had become part of their worship so much so that he had to specifically issue strong warnings. See v16-18.
He argues that if we are dead to the elemental spirits of the world by dying in Christ, why then do we say, “don’t taste this, don’t touch this, etc” All these were a shadow of what was to come.
Christianity is not burdensome. Saddling religion with so many rules to the detriment of church growth and the spiritual wellbeing is definitely anti-godly. Know why you do what you do.
Have a blessed day.
