Ephesians 5:11-12 KJV
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them .
[12] For it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret.
The WordNet English Dictionary defines fellowship as the state of being with someone. Companionship or company are some synonyms of the word.
Paul had noticed that for some of the people of Ephesus, certain sins were not a one time event for them. They had formed some companionship with those sins, and had become things they couldn’t do without.
The works of darkness (see v3 -4) never bring any fruitfulness to our lives, not even in the least. They provide very transient pleasure yet may leave eternally devastating rewards. You just can’t fellowship with these!
Once or twice you may have indulged or over-indulged, hold it there at that point and seek to recourse to the Light, because sooner or later, the Light will make manifest all that is done in secret.
