SOLITUDE VS. MARRIAGE – Thu, Dec 22, 2016

1 Corinthians 7:6-8 KJV

But I speak this by permission, and not of commandment.
[7] For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.
[8] I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.

A lot of emphasis is placed these days on the importance of marriage. There are books on how spouses should live together, how to find a partner, what signs to look out for, etc etc etc.

In our part of the world, the picture is painted in a way that suggests being married is at the peak of all blessings, so that he/she who isn’t definitely needs some counseling, prayers of deliverance or both.

This is absolutely wrong in Paul’s opinion. In fact, He recommends marriage for those who can’t make it through the school of self control…and this is in respect of sexual intercourse. Paul outlines a myriad of benefits a solitary life dedicated to God has over marriage.

Don’t burn in lust if you can’t  live a life of solitude, by all means marry. But don’t be deceived, a dedicated  life of solitude to God is definitely better, 1 Cor 7:38.
Have a blessed day.
