Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

Sometimes I ask myself why Jesus would make such a recommendation to the rich young man. Why should Jesus ask him to go sell all he had and distribute to the poor.

Frankly speaking how many people could genuinely do this. It is easy to dismiss what Jesus said as impossible but people like Mother Theresa executed this hard teaching in real life.

Clearly Jesus had a passion for the poor. A substantial component of His ministry focused on them and He was very charitable to them with His teachings as well, very evident in this particular one. (18:18-30)

We just cannot avoid the poor if we need to store up treasures in heaven. No matter how much tithing and offering you do, you simply cannot dodge showing love to the poor. I’d re-look at that aspect of my life if I were you.
