Matthew 17:19, 21 KJV
Then came the disciples to Jesus apart, and said, Why could not we cast him out?
[21] Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.
A man’s son had seizures, he was epileptic and often fell in fire. This man’s frustration over his son’s illness almost ended when he heard that Jesus was in town.
Like we see in modern times, Jesus’s disciples chose to handle this clear case of demonic attack. They tried all methods known to them. I presume, they rolled the guy in spins, spoke into his ears, waved hands over his body, etc, etc, etc. They gave up eventually, yet wouldn’t hand him over to the master.
Notice the ease with which the demon was rebuked soon as his dad brought him to Jesus. What is more important is Jesus’s comments thereafter. Only fasting and prayer made this possible.
By all means Christians need to fast and pray. I say this because there are yet some of us who never fast and yet expect all our problems to be solved. You are living in a fool’s paradise if you do so. Fasting is mandatory to sharpen your spiritual arsenals and give you a sharper focus.
Take it up, you need it.
Have a blessed day.
