MOTIVES AND REWARDS – Fri, Aug 12, 2016

Matthew 6:2 KJV

Therefore when thou doest thine alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
Jesus gave some sound teachings on Giving, Prayer and Fasting in this chapter. As I read again, I couldn’t help but notice the phrase, “They have their reward.”
Jesus rebuked any form of Giving, Praying or Fasting to win public admiration. If this is your motive, then your reward in deed is public admiration and nothing more.

This is not to say Giving, Fasting and Praying publicly is wrong. The emphasis here, in my opinion, is the motives for doing what we do. God alone judges the thoughts and intents of our hearts (Heb 4:12) and knows when you want to please Him or fool the crowd.

Would you desire rewards that are heavenly, eternal and invaluable or ones as simple as public admiration?  Check your motives if you must do these right.

Have a blessed Friday.
