Matthew 4:4 KJV
But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
I spent a relatively good deal of time today than I usually do, reading and studying this chapter and one preceeding it. I realised a lot of reference was made to the old testament, especially Isaiah and Jeremiah
But when I took a careful look at the responses of Jesus in His encounter with the tempter, I noticed a very interesting trend: all His responses came from the Torah, specifically Deut chapters 6 and 8.
Clearly, Jesus showed His mastery of the Word, even to the extent of deciphering a misquote from Psalm 91:11, 12 when the tempter used it. He wasn’t fooled.
Some of us believers allow ourselves to be tossed about by “every wind of doctrine” and the “sleight of men” (Eph 4:14) simply because we never value the Word of Abba Adonai, and so never spend time to study.
I pray we devote some more time to study, to show ourselves approved.
Have a blessed day.
