Zechariah 7:9-10 KJV
Thus speaketh the Lord of hosts, saying, Execute true judgment, and shew mercy and compassions every man to his brother:
[10] And oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the stranger, nor the poor; and let none of you imagine evil against his brother in your heart.
The Jews, while in exile, fasted on the 5th and 7th months of each year, to commemorate the siege of Jerusalem. They did this for all the 70 years of their exile.
Yet this act of faith alone was not enough, by the standards the Lord required of them.
Indeed fasting and prayers are good, but they become powerless when we neglect love for another.
So God would speak through Zechariah and tell the people to show mercy and compassion to one another. Not oppressing widows, orphans and strangers, nor having evil intents for others.
Too many of us fast and pray and yet are guilty of some of these, like the Jews, so we never enjoy the benefits or see the fruits of our fasts.
Do fast and pray, not neglecting concern for others, if you need to move that mountain.
Have a blessed day.
