Daniel 1:8 KJV
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself.
We begin the book of Daniel today with the training of 4 young men; Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael and Azariah, in Babylon, after Judah had been captured and sent into exile.
Their story reminded me of a senior colleague I met in the university. Before then we had attended the same High school where he was the head of one of the students’ religious fellowships. I held him in high esteem.
But not in the tertiary! When I met him again, he was in very bad company and did a lot of immoral things. He had been ‘infected’ with the way of life of his new environment.
Daniel and his friends would not have any of this, to the extent that they wouldn’t even eat what was offered.
It is easier to conform to a depraved environment than to stick to what we know and are convinced is right. In most cases, people don’t dare to be different, like water they choose the easier option, the path of least resistance.
Challenge yourself and live the way you ought to as a believer, not how ‘they’ want you to.
Enjoy the holiday.
