I charge you, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, by the roes, and by the hinds of the field, that ye stir not up, nor awake my love, till he please.

I usually listen to radio before going to bed each day and over the years I’ve come to love one particular programme that seeks to advise young people who are in relationships and desirous of marriage.

In one such episode, this scripture came up, i. e. Songs of Solomon 3:5. I remember the host of the show focused on the latter part of the verse, advising young people not to “awaken love” prematurely.

Too many a time, young people engage in activities that awaken our sexual-senses and get us all hyper much too early in life. I’m worried particularly about teenagers who spend so much time with their phones sending love notes here and there. Much time is not given to counseling to develop and nurture these sensual feelings.

We owe the little ones this responsibility of nurturing. We may not have had this privilege in our time, which may be the reason we messed up, however, we have the opportunity to make our younger ones do better than we did. Let’s help them check the feelings.
