2 Chronicles 10:4 KJV
Thy father made our yoke grievous: now therefore ease thou somewhat the grievous servitude of thy father, and his heavy yoke that he put upon us, and we will serve you.
I belong to the school of thought that believes children NEEDS be better than their parents. I have come from a home where I was the first in my nuclear family to see the walls of a tertiary institution; a first generation kid.
Obviously right from the word go, too much was expected from me, even though when I compared myself to my colleagues back then in school, I could have sworn that what my parents did for me was nothing near extra-o.
But that is exactly where the danger lies. Different people see things differently, and that is why such subjects must not be taken out of context.
The people expected Rehoboam TO BE BETTER than his parents and rule them in a more humanitarian way. But that was not to be, and his demise came much much quicker.
Irrespective of your background, you are expected to be a better version of your parents. You are the BETTER generation and you must strive to make this happen. (Read Rom 8:19)
Some of us have had the opportunity not only to be more educated than our folks but even encountered Christ in a way they never did. We cannot fail or disappoint them. Let’s strive to be BETTER.
Have a blessed day.
