1 Chronicles 22:8 KJV
But the word of the Lord came to me, saying, Thou hast shed blood abundantly, and hast made great wars: thou shalt not build an house unto my name, because thou hast shed much blood upon the earth in my sight.
In what was his fatherly advise to Solomon, David assured him God was going to make him rule in his place and urged him to pray for wisdom and understanding to rule God’s people.
Furthermore, David told Solomon how much raw materials he had stocked up for him to build the temple, revealing his original intention to build the temple.
But why would God not want David to build the temple? Was not God with David in all those battles? And were some of those battles not ordered by God himself?
In a commentary I read sometime, the writer said this this not suggest David was wrong in fighting those wars, but that “war and bloodshed, even when neccesary, fall short of God’s ideal.”
Now that is deep.
God still desires Peace over wars, rest over confusion, calmness over chaos, humility over pride and arrogance.
He still prefers the sheep to the goats so do well to stay within his reach.
Have a blessed day.
