FRIENDS OF CAESAR – Fri, May 15, 2020

John 19:15-16 KJV

But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

[16] Then delivered he him therefore unto them to be crucified. And they took Jesus, and led him away.

A lot of strange things happened before Jesus’s death. The Jews, and some other regions were all under the rule of the Romans. Caesar was their king, yes, but he wasn’t someone they’d profess love for. They never liked the taxes and tributes they paid.

So to hear the Pharisees make a comment like this: “we have no king but Caesar” might have even sounded strange in the ears of Pilate himself. That is how badly the chief priests wanted to get rid of the man Jesus.

I have seen christians put on a different character when they felt the need to get somebody out of their way. I have seen private WhatsApp messages from christians, pleading with others to back them win favour unduly, over a fellow christian. Some situations even go lower than these.

Once you begin to associate with a supposed “enemy” just to get a brother out of your way, you are in no wise acting any differently from the Pharisees and chief priests, “making friends with Caesar.”
Stay true to the faith of your calling and never cease to look out for your brother, irrespective of his political colours, or religious affiliation.

Have a blessed day. #TGIF
