Daniel 4:17-18 KJV
This matter is by the decree of the watchers, and the demand by the word of the holy ones: to the intent that the living may know that the most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and giveth it to whomsoever he will, and setteth up over it the basest of men.
[18] This dream I king Nebuchadnezzar have seen.
The account of Nebuchadnezzar has so many highlights that makes studying very interesting.
First point for me is why God would be so interested in a pagan king.
As history would have it, God had already pronounced judgement on His own people, the Jews, and would still need some human agents to carry out his decree. This is where it doesn’t matter who God finds fit for such a purpose. He administered dreams, not once, and other experiences that some pious men could hardly chance upon (See chapters 1- 3).
So that even after all the experiences, when Nebuchadnezzar still wouldn’t submit to His will, He would take him through another wilderness experience to hammer home the point, “the Most High rules in the affairs of men…”
Alas, Nebuchadnezzar came through, but he learnt the hard way. His experience is a good one for you and I to know that indeed God lifts whomever He will, and exalts the lowliest of men to high places.
Have a blessed day.
