Thus saith the Lord God; Because thou saidst, Aha, against my sanctuary, when it was profaned; and against the land of Israel, when it was desolate; and against the house of Judah, when they went into captivity;
[4] Behold, therefore I will deliver thee to the men of the east for a possession, and they shall eat thy fruit, and they shall drink thy milk
Very recently when news of lecturers who had misconducted themselves in the alleged ‘sex for grades’ scandal came out, it didn’t take a full day to go viral. By the third day, funny posts and comments were dominating social media.
Later, I read one comment, that reminded me of what my disposition should be in such times. The comment suggested that when another man is down, you don’t go laughing and scorning, you rather take a cue from his actions and do well not to find yourself in a similar position.
Israel’s captivity brought a lot of joy to their usual enemies. Though this should be a very normal expression of their feelings, the Prophet Ezekiel had some hard words from the Lord for them (see v3-7).
Gloating over your brother’s misfortunes is definitely not godly, neither is feigning sympathy. In such situations, let’s remember who we are in Christ first, and ask if He would approve our reactions.
