WEALTH’S DECEIT – Tue, Jul 02, 2019

Isaiah 23:1 KJV

The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them.

Reading a little about Tyre and Sidon this morning and checking out their location on the map, I see that they are harbour/port towns. The closest I can get to experiencing Isaiah’s prophesy about Tyre is when I look at the old town through the lenses of James Town, Accra.

About a decade ago I used to do some community service in James Town and so got the opportunity to learn much about the area. How a mighty port that blossomed with trade in all manner of wares was left to waste away, occasioned by the infamous earthquake, still beats my mind.

Today, James Town isn’t anything near what it was.
Isaiah saw a more devastating end for Tyre and Sidon and the same for all who pride themselves in their ill-gotten wealth without regards to their maker.

Just like beauty, wealth is fleeting and sometimes deceitful. Wisdom is required to harness suc wealth and true wisdom is to know God and believe in Him, a sure way to sustain wealth… wealth not bound by time, wealth not lost to external trade factors, wealth not controlled by investors’ decisions or government policies. Let’s seek better things.

Have a blessed day.
