Job 6:8-9 KJV
Oh that I might have my request; and that God would grant me the thing that I long for!
[9] Even that it would please God to destroy me; that he would let loose his hand, and cut me off!
Some friends passed through my office last night to get some work done. They informed me about the demise of one of our friend’s dad while we worked and how he contemplated suicide many times before his eventual natural death.
I was a bit surprised to hear that the always-happy carefree man that he was, ever considered a thing like suicide. Apparently, a lot had changed since I last saw him. It had been more than 10yrs and life had dished out a full measure of grief to him.
Probably Job felt a hundred times more of this anguish and pain. He wanted God to just “finish” him off quickly enough so he doesn’t even lose his faith at some point. This was his earnest desire, to die. It was that bad! (v9).
He expected empathy from his friends at that point.
At a certain point in your friend’s affliction, the least you can offer should be your empathy. It is no time to get even (see v14) and remind them of karma. As much you can, feel what they go through and petition God on their behalf.
Have a blessed day.
