2 Chronicles 28:23 KJV

For he sacrificed unto the gods of Damascus, which smote him: and he said, Because the gods of the kings of Syria help them, therefore will I sacrifice to them, that they may help me. But they were the ruin of him, and of all Israel.

I know a lady who quit fellowship with us, because somehow she got convinced our leader was not powerful (anointed) enough. She approached the leader and encouraged the elderly woman to delve more into powerful areas of ministry.

Since things didn’t turn out how she wanted, the younger lady quit and joined a more powerful group. Little did she know this was not just going to end her blooming career but also rob her of her life-savings. Things turned out very bad at a point so that all who knew her could only pray.

King Ahaz of Judah treaded a similar path, he gave up the God of Judah for those of Damascus, simply because he presumed those gods were more powerful and had granted them successes in war. The king had only deceived himself and was on a trajectory of demise.

Just when you want to consider another alternative to a tested and proven solution, please pause and think first. Even when you think you are so sure, it pays to proceed with caution because not all that glitters is gold.
