1 Chronicles 26:12 KJV
Among these were the divisions of the gatekeepers, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the Lord.
One group of people that is not talked about much is the GATEKEEPERS. These were very trustworthy Levites who guarded the gates of the camp and most importantly, significant places of worship.
Due to the sensitivity of their job, they certainly had to be incorruptible valiant men, whose interests were in every matter pertaining to God (v30, v33). In his time, David used these to guard the temple treasuries.
In a book entitled “Holy War,” the author, John Bunyan speaks of the need to have a spiritual gatekeeper. He mentioned five gates: Ear-gate, Eye-gate, Mouth-gate, Nose-gate and Feel-gate, which are usually the entry points for all manner of jeopardy we put our souls through.
A firm Christian doesn’t disregard these gates, but employs a spiritual gatekeeper (Holy Spirit) to keep his soul safe. Never overlook the promptings or warnings of your Gatekeeper, the consequences may be too grave.
Have a blessed day.
