Deuteronomy 25:5 KJV
If brethren dwell together, and one of them die, and have no child, the wife of the dead shall not marry without unto a stranger: her husband’s brother shall go in unto her, and take her to him to wife, and perform the duty of an husband’s brother unto her.
Sometimes I wonder how it would be like to live in the days of the ancient Jews, when laws like this were upheld religiously.
If you’d recall, Jesus was confronted with this very scripture by the teachers of the Law, when He preached about the resurrection of Life.
Though laws like this don’t hold anyone in Christianity, the intention behind it is very clear. God would not have the livelihoods of others taken away from them. The very essence of their lives and all other things that gives people a reason to live must never be trampled upon.
So that if your actions are legally right but will cause an upset or threaten the survival of the livelihood of your neighbour, then it is godly to reconsider it. God will judge motives, not just actions.
Have a blessed day.
