Leviticus 25:23-24 KJV
The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine; for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.
[24] And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a redemption for the land.
The first time I visited Dzodze in the Volta Region, we drove past many vast plains of lands. One question that kept recurring to me was, who they belonged to.
In Accra you may not see such vast lands anywhere, because almost every single piece of land has been sold or in the process of being sold. For obvious reasons the prices of these Accra lands are very dear and most often only the very rich are able to afford. Eventually, all lands owned by poorer people will be acquired by richer folks.
God knew this would happen with the Jews even before they got to Canaan, so established a caveat… “The land is mine, no one can possess it forever.” (v23)
Buried in this statement is a wealth redistribution plan. Even if you bought the land from someone, you had to return it during the Jubilee Year (50yrs). 😊😎
This means one could only lease out the land and not otherwise… and this God did to protect the properties of the poor and less privileged.
He has all of us in mind irrespective of your social status. The earth is the Lord’s and the fullness thereof.
Have a blessed day.
