James 1:26 KJV
If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man’s religion is vain.
If the book of James is noted for anything at all, I’m sure it should be about its concern for the use of the tongue. I remember clearly a message I heard on taming the tongue when I was in High School.
A lot of spiritual juggernauts in this country are very expressive on all subjects. Whether on traditional media or social media, they just can’t miss an opportunity to express their views on whatever subject is trending.
I don’t condemn advocacy, neither do I intend to suppress any religious person or look down on their views. But like James quotes in 1:26 our tongues need to be briddled sometimes, just for the sake of the Gospel.
Yes you have an opinion about every social issue being discussed. But indeed, it is prudent for you as a Christian to exercise some restraint just before you throw anything out there into the public.
Have a blessed Friday.
