Hebrews 7:11-12 KJV
If therefore perfection were by the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
[12] For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
This chapter of Hebrews clearly speaks to the supremacy of the New Covenant over the Old. But more importantly, it establishes the champion of the New Covenant, Jesus as a priest and a king at the same time.
Jesus hails from the tribe of Judah so being a king is not debatable. But He is no descendant of Levi or Aaron, so in effect has no business with the priestly ministry. The writer of Hebrews sets the records straight…
Jesus’s priesthood is not of Levitical Order. It is of the Order of Melchizedek, the only man who combined those two offices, whose length of days, like Enoch, are not known. So clearly the supremacy of Jesus’s priesthood over that of Levi/Aaron suggests the New Covenant’s supremacy over the Old.
Our Priest lives forever and He is the High Priest of the New Covenant. He makes daily intercessions for you and I. Indeed we are not a lost people, we are a people of Hope.
Embrace the faith.
Have a blessed Friday.
